video aside, i was so not impressed by the track. ON sounded like it could have been put out a year ago, and maybe even earlier. i find that the twin doesn't develop his musical ideas very much/very well. his music, take analogue bubblebath 3 for example, comes off as a series of loops which he repeats for a while without much variation ... more highly of him than they should. he is suddenly getting this mystique, this reputation for being innovative when he really isn't all that. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< I agree. I realize that we'll both probably be flamed left and right for having this viewpoint, and I realize that this list was pretty much started for Aphex Twin's music, but I can't really get into his music as much because it seems to me that I can make music like that in a matter of a couple hours. It sounds impressive that he has 1500 unreleased tracks, but I would rather wait 6 months for a new album and have him spend the entire six months on it, than have him crank out 30 tracks of mediocre stuff in a day. Everyone on this list talks about him like he's some kind of god, but the fact is, I could make a track just like Analogue Bubblebath III without even using a sequencer. All he did was take some analogue noise loops and run them through a helluvalot of reverb. I have samples for Ensoniq ASR-10 that sound just like the noise he uses. You could play that song, or something so similar you wouldn't know the difference, with one hand basically. I don't hate Aphex Twin, some of his stuff is really good, but I don't see where someone deserves a god-like status for punching some rhythms into a sequencer for 15 minutes, mastering it to DAT, and pressing a bunch of vinyl. Just my opinion, don't take any of this personally. Luke

As a semi-accomplished techno musician, I would have to say that this statement is easy to say, but hard to back up. Not tryint to insult you, but AFX's style is very PERSONAL which makes it very hard to copy. trust me..... -- Kennen Sie eine Merle? Kennen Sie eine Merle? Das ist gut...zu gut. I'd have to agree wholeheartedly. This always reminds me of those discussions about how all modern painting sucks; I could have thought of that, etc. If so, _why didn't you_!!! If you can really produce stuff as good as AFX, (and I don't doubt that you can) why aren't you getting this out there? I'd sure like to hear it. As to the general point of this discussion, I'd have to refer to an alt.rave poster's argument about why I think AFX is great. _Who else_ has done the volume of _excellent_ tracks like Richard? In my case, I ask: who else has done as much stuff as good as the following: Analogue Bubblebath Digeridoo (the 1st track on xylem - damn! i'm not near my lp's) Polynomial-C or something - you know the one before Tamphex 1st, 8th, and 11th tracks off AB#3 CD Ageispolis Green Calx Blue Calx Hedphlegm or whatever Polygon Window Quixote Quinophec That's 13 amazing trax... -Harvey ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harvey D. You would have to wonder if the number of hot tracks is due to the sheer volume of tracks he has. I'm sure if I had 22 albums of stuff around, there would be a couple real good tracks. -- Chris Fraser &:^) ! This is the most illogical post I've seen on this list. Has Stephen King written a 'Finnegans Wake'? He's quite prolific, you know. C. -- (Chris.Hilker) cspot@netcom.com

No, but Dean R. Koontz has managed to pump out quite a few gems by writing 10 books a year. =) ___ (:)====/__/\=(:)(:)============================(:)====================(:) |\| _\_ \ \|\||=| Tai Nguyen |\| email address: |=| |=| /__/\_\ \=||\| Cornell University |=| thn1@cornell.edu |\| |\| / /\ __/\|(:)============================(:)====================(:) |=|/ / /\ \ |=||=| "These are not my figures I'm quoting.
