I'm wondering if any of you ambient dj's would care to divulge your most intimate and obscure/offbeat "secret weapon" tracks/noise that you hold off on until just that perfect moment. Here's my top 5 identification tracks: 1. Hosono, Haruomi - "Malabar Hotel" (from Cochin Moon, King Records, 1978) Unbelievably 90's in sound! 2. Sadistic Mika Band - "Sumie no Kunie" (from Sadistic Mika Band, Harvest Records, c.1974?) 3. 10cc - "I'm Not In Love" (from that album with the film editing equipment on the cover..., c.1976?) 4. Suzuki, Keichi/Orb - "Sattellite Serenade Remix - Trans Asian Express" (Wau/Mr. Modo vinyl, or Suzuki's "White Report" cd on EMI?, 1991) 5. Laibach - (there's a 2min. snippit in the middle of a track on the "Macbeth" album with a rain storm, sheep, and a warped piano that you can work in and out for a long time). -tt

A YMO fan, I see... How available is the sadistic mika stuff? I haven't been able to find anything by them, anywhere... Some of my signature faves: 1. Severed Heads - Alaskan Polar Bear Heater (No. 2) - loop of some guy saying "Well, you like that, wanna do it again?" over some wonderful ice-crystal noises (from Blubberknife, Terse Tapes, 1982 - reissued on Nettwerk re-release of "Since the Accident) 2. Coil - Exploding Frogs - very dreamy/jazzy in nature (from Stolen + Contaminated Songs, Threshold House, 1992) 3. Negativland - Big 10-8 Place part 2 - good to throw in snippets a couple minutes at a time for really surreal effect (from A Big 10-8 Place, Seeland, 1983) Putting in other stuff by the aforementioned bands is also recommended... /-oOOo------------oOOo-\ --------------------------/------------------------\-------------------------- "the only constant / Harvey D. I think Psychic TV's "At Stockholm" would be a good one to mix in every now and then - lots of wierdo whales/speech etc with the occasional rhythm. That is, it would be Ok if you can stand the blokes voice ;-) Other good ones include the first track on Caberet Voltaires Plasticity, and any early mid 13th to 14th century lute music or choral works (e.g. Sanctus) for short bursts.
