roots.. that is. age 5. first earliest memory, i was wearing silver makeup over one eye and dancing around to the stage rock act KISS. i thought they were the shit. at the same time, i was really, really scared of queen (because of the bleeding robot inside the cover) but i really like the song "we are the champions," etc. BTW: i also thought i was luke skywalker, and i wanted to be either an astronaut or an artist for the rest of my life. STAR WARS was on my mind 24-7. age 8, i think this is when the styx song came out, with the robot voice, which i also enjoyed.. the first electronic stuff i really really got into was when i started breakdancing. Newcleus'- "Jam on It," Run DMC, Whodini's-"Five Minutes of Funk," and some band that went by the _art of noise_ did this song called "beat box." that was what hooked me. later on, i heard kraftwerk, then, in 1987 i went out on a limb and bought cleanse, fold, and manipulate by skinny puppy. i also had purchased big black's "racer x" EP and i found out that big black had done their show weeks before i bought the tape in oberlin, oh. that was the last you saw of them. and big black used an 808. aside from that, i saw 808 state on MTV's 120 minutes with their special about manchester. i was drooling whenever i heard cubik and pacific. so, i bugged the little store of kamms to get the 808 state album as soon as it got released. i also really enjoyed sonic youth, band of susans, the 4ad scene sans xymox and coloubox (ugh!) and some band that made their own instruments called EINSTUERZENDE NEUBATEN. i loved that band. ahh. during all of the stuff since skinny puppy, i did a fanzine on bikes and skateboards called local action. i then did a zine called visual razorblade. i interviewed lush, pigface, rudy vanderlans of emigre, FACT 22, 808 state, the orb, dj massive, zoviet france, chris and cosey, LFO, northside, king missile, and wreck. too bad i never had enough money to tget it off the ground. sines -- ++++ todd sines ~ ++++ tsines@magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu / analogue@magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu ++++ 1770 n high st apt.L columbus, oh 43201 * 614 299 3101 vm 614 523 7762 ++++ analogue heaven * ars * body release * enhanced * re:source * sense/net
