I thought this would be a good point to introduce myself. I got the IDM address off of the mw-raves list and thought this would be a good place to hang out for a while (thanks Yusef =). My name is Steve White and I'm a political science / peace studies student at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. My musical past has been quite varied and still does vary heavily depending on my mood of the moment. I started out at the early age of ~10 listening to the R&B that was semi-popular at the time (c. 1972). From there around the late 80's my mom started playing a lot of classical and jazz around the house. It was an interesting contrast because considering my age at the time my friends thought I was a total loon. I dunno, it made sense to me, even having been ,listening to R&B/pop oriented stuff, I found a lot of similarities. Anyway, as I got into high school I went through a hard-rock phase of Rush (which I still like quite a bit) and most of the really bad high school rock and roll. But, later on I of course fell into the whole disco thang and went to the teen-bars around Milwaukee. Thinking back I should have just stuck with dance music and saved myself a lot of time and energy. ;-) After high school I started hanging around the east-side of town which at the time was made up of university students, musicians, artists and such. that got me going and I went through ska, new romantics (DuranDuran and the like), then the 80's dance music, Culture Club, etc. Now, I've made it to the techno phase of my life. When I first started getting into techno it was at a rave. It blew me away. But since then the techno scene has gone much more hardcore than fits my tastes. Whatever happened to all that lovely housey stuff that sounded oh so happy... So, here I am. I know that's a *VERY* abridged version of my musical tastes, mainly because right now I'll listen to just about anything that is off the beaten path of the garbage in the mainstream. Hopefully y'all on this list will keep me informed. If you want to know more just write back. o v e r h e a t m y d a t a s i n k steve j white aragorn@convex.csd.uwm.edu
