Hi everybody, I'm working on a master's thesis about IDM and would like to know if some books were done on this subject. I've already borrowed some writings here and there but most of my work come from my IDM experience and personal analysys. I know some of you are part of the IDM industry, so I'll apreciate your help ;) -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/IDM-books-tp24568943p24568943.html Sent from the IDM mailing list archive at Nabble.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I guess it will depend on how you define IDM, but I think a lot of the early, more techno material (B12, The Black Dog, AFX, etc.) was directly influenced by Carl Craig's 1990 BFC and Psyche records. http://www.gridface.com/features/early_idm.html Picking up a copy of Dan Sicko's Techno Rebels wouldn't hurt. A while back I was browsing through the early list archives and I grabbed copies of all of the early annual polls. I've been meaning to reformat and post them. Cheers, Jacob Electroboy wrote:

I'd second the Ocean of Sound recommendation, and also say that Simon Reynolds' Energy Flash (Generation Ecstacy in the US) is worth reading for a balancing view - that IDM is an occasionally inspired but frequently insipid footnote to the creative drive of a lot of the rest of the UK dance scene. I don't agree with everything he says, but I think his viewpoint is very well put forward and very interesting, in a "love it or hate it, at least it makes you think" sort of way. It'll certainly help you to avoid sounding like a fanboy if you're well up on an alternative perspective. ________________________________ From: Electroboy [mailto:anthony.papavassiliou@gmail.com] Sent: Mon 20/07/2009 13:29 To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] IDM books Hi everybody, I'm working on a master's thesis about IDM and would like to know if some books were done on this subject.
