"Box is the occasional dance music side project of prolific sound
artist Jeremy Bible. The project first emerged with 2005's Core EP, a
three tracker of intricate minimal electro workouts on Bible's
Experimedia label, which includes bonus remixes by Halfadder, Phase
For Stereo, and Milieu. This time around I Will Let You Down flexes
the techno muscle and contains the first vocal tracks since Bible's
electro project from 2002 under the guise of Helen Keller. I Will Let
You Down is an homage to frustration and disappointment with societal
expectations, narrow mindedness, and mass media induced popular
opinion. This sentiment is most apparent on the EP's titular track
where Bible sarcastically rants "I will let you down, if you let me
let you down" over shuffling techno beats containing percussion built
from vocal snippets, awkwardly funky electro influenced basslines, and
melancholic string melodies reminiscent of those heard on Jeremy
Bible's 2006 modern classic of experimental electronica, I Am Very
Uncomfortable Most of The Time. I Come in Pieces continues the EP
incorporating many of the aforementioned elements. Kicking things off
with slowly evolving droning techno rhythm and bass, ticking and
shuffling along, while blips, bleeps, toms, strange effected vocal
fragments, and hissing hi hat rolls build towards the last breakdown
which returns with a barrage of processed vocal glitches and fx over
the now fully exposed hard and broken rhythm creating an almost
industrial feel. Next in line is the minimal and subsonic I Want to
Explode. A swinging beat with low dragging bass, bouncing synths, and
more processed vocals create a strange and original otherworldly
techno sound. The EP is capped off with a purely instrumental version
of I Will Let You Down. As a bonus DJs and producers alike are
invited to freely download, remix, and abuse an Ableton Live pack
containing the stems for the title track, I Will Let You Down. Jeremy
Bible's current efforts are heavily focused towards
avant-garde/electro-acoustic/musique concrète sound art compositions
with primary collaborator Jason Henry aka Halfadder. The output from
this collaborative endeavor in 2008 alone has seen and handful of
releases on multiple international labels. In addition to his work as
a sound artist, Jeremy Bible operates, again with Jason Henry, the
respected recording label and arts organization Experimedia. As for
Bible's Box project further explorations into off kilter dance music
are planned, working its way into even further minimal territory,
building upon raw sine wave tones and sounds generated through the
conversion of database files to create odd and raw minimal rhythmic
structures."
