if they truly do make music for ONLY themselves, they are in a blissful state of hubris that we musicians who have gotten too entangled in our egos and forgot the blissfulness of what it was like when we were new to music AND making it just for ourselves, (if you never went through that period, and truly got into music FOR other people at the start, well then, fuck you, truly)
I would LOVE to be back in the blissful state when I first started making tracks where the only objective was to please myself with what I could come up with, due to human ego, that's impossible now, the best I can do it find a palatable middle path

I would suggest that if you don't "give a shit about what anyone else
thinks about yer music" then you should think about another
profession/avocation. The ivory tower, art for art's sake philosophy
went down the tubes decades ago. If your tree falls in a forest and
no one hears it, it indeed, does not make a sound. And music is
nothing if not sound. Anyone who suggests they only make music for
themselves is either disingenuous or full of the worst kind of hubris.

I'd think about it, but I certainly wouldn't suggest killing yourself.
