So, yeah, I loves me some Basic Channel. I like some other similar stuff too... Deep Chord, Porter Ricks, etc. One thing I haven't yet checked out very much are the releases on the Chain Reaction label, just haven't gotten around to it yet. So what's good from that label? Is it all good, or was their output spotty? Are there some crucial releases to check out? Anything to avoid? c. . --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

If you like BC, I can't imagine there'd be much you'd dislike, and I don't think there's anyone who regards the CR output as 'spotty'. Personally, I think the Fluxion 'Vibrant Forms' releases are especially good. The Vlad Delay 'Multila' was a classic statement of his sound, and I still prefer it to his later work. Similar sentiments regarding Monolake 'HongKong'. There's actually a compilation that would be good as a 'taster' - Porter Ricks, Vainqueur, Scion, Substance, Ridis, Monolake on that one. Other stuff to check out that's on a similar tip but not on CR: <http://www.discogs.com/release/43996> <http://www.discogs.com/release/198392> <http://www.discogs.com/release/93967> <http://www.discogs.com/release/134315> <http://www.discogs.com/release/105659> alan --On 04 May 2006 18:17 -0600 "C. Call me uncritical, but if you like that sound, go for it. It's a pretty solid label. Scion, Substance, Various Artists, Monolake, Porter Ricks, Fluxion, Vainquer - it;s hard to find a lemon there. Also, the Maurizio M series CD is out and about again and it is not to be missed. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I love Rhythm & Sound. I caught their 45 session the other week and would recommend you run, don't walk, there. However, I abhor those remixes. WTF is Lightning Storm doing with a shite breakbeat doing slapped onto it courtesy of Francois K. And don't get me going on the Soundstream 'version' of Free For All. Anyone else have a view? If you were considering shelling out for these, slsk 'em first. yes, i have a view. i have #1 and #2 so far, and while i don't much care for the francois k and vladislav delay remixes, i very very very much like the other four. i think the villalobos mix is especially impressive (i like how awkward it feels). and rhythm & sound live mixes... too bad i live in chicago. ;( -- -schrock- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hey Kyle - always good to hear a different opinion. Checking on my last.fm page, I've listened to more R&S than anything apart from Kraftwerk in the past 18 months. I find in their sound a depth - and a darkness - possessd by very little other music. Speaking to an acquaintance a few months ago who declared his love of R&S, I asked him why he didn't feel the same about Basic Channel/Chain Reaction. I was interested by his response - that the latter didn't have the soul of the former. I find I agree with him (though I'm also a big fan of Chain Reaction). For me, the remixes pay attention to the sound - each artist stamps their own template onto their chosen track - but effectively ignore the >content< created by Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus in conjunction with the artists. I did have some hopes for the Vladislav Delay mix because his work approaches closest to a viable contemporary version of dub. What he actually produced is, however, disappointing. So it's only really Tiki's Pure Blue Mix that has any intrinsic interest because of the singer's involvement in the original project, though there too, the reduced involvement of R&S results in something less interesting. I must fess up to a general dislike of remixes though, the world would be a generally better place without them. Just my tuppence ha'penny's worth. Yeah, it was amazing. The R&S live portion was great, and then they followed it up with the 45 session with two live MCs. Fucking great. Too bad about the Tikiman "live set," though. Him going back and forth between a laptop and vinyl with very shaky, short mixes. Turns out the "special detroit guest" was Carl Craig, which was beyond a pleasent surprise. -- :: atomly :: [ atomly@atomly.com : www.atomly.com ...
