Yes - HNIA is a fun troupe, capable of nice noisy haze-walls, punk-jazz,
indie and fairly strident pop.
The show opened in Detroit with Death Vessel - a young, American Indian
looking guy who articulated well with an acoustic guitar and sang with a
high, quirky, almost Neil Youngish warble. At times he seemed bluesy
americana/indie - good melodic vocal hooks and used his quirks to full
advantage. The kid can write.
HNIA escalates the ante with a 4AD-ish blend that traverses the back
roads of indie bordering heroin foglands.
Low is just...Low. A bar is the worst place to see them, but they tend
to wrestle well anywhere.
I liked the Trust tour better, but when Alan cuts loose with the fx on
"Tonight The Monkey Dies" and/or the band pulls you into the undertow of
"(That's How We Sing) Amazing Grace" and "In The Drugs", I am reminded
that a live presentation is necessary with many bands in order to feel
what they're about. It's a tactile thing.
It has been in my blood all day. I love it when that happens.
