Since there's been so much talk about RSS feeds lately, I was wondering which reader are you using or do you think it's the best? sorry about the grammar. I'd rather use Freeware stuff. I'm using http://sourceforge.net/projects/feedreader/ and I think it's ok... any opinions on this? Because I'm really lazy at the moment I don't have any machine running Linux, so I'd be more interested in Windows based ones. Thanks in advance for you ever so enlightening replies, :-) Chase the Void before it's too late -- -=[Rather Than Love, Than Money, Than Fame, Give Me Truth]=-

I have tried many if not most of the available windows RSS readers and to be honest, I found that Bloglines is the best. http://www.bloglines.com Best of all, it is web based so you can read it from wherever you might be... no need to run additional programs, just open it up in Firefox (or IE, eeew) and all of the latest posts are there waiting for you. It IS free and you can add an unlimited number of feed in various formats. Hope that helps :) -dM --- Joao Vasconcelos <jdvoid@gmail.com> wrote:

Although not free, I really dig FeedDemon (http://www.feeddemon.com). Before I started using FeedDemon, I used NetNewsWire (http://www.ranchero.com) on the Mac. Interestingly enough, NewsGator (http://www.newsgator.com) now owns them both and has already implemented synchronization with one's NewsGator web account with FeedDemon. NetNewsWire sync support is coming down the pipe. If you use Outlook you can get a NewsGator plugin to read your feeds inside Outlook. A good free RSS reader for Windows/Mac/Linux is RSSOwl (http://www.rssowl.org), which supports a ranking system called AmphetaRate which seems to hold some promise. Both Thunderbird and Mozilla have some integration with RSS, but it's never really worked to my tastes. I like the idea behind BlogLines, but I've found it doesn't work too well with the internal RSS feeds my employer uses, and it's updates lag a bit behind real-time. For other Windows clients, there's the free SharpReader (http://www.sharpreader.net) and the commercial NewzCrawler (http://www.newzcrawler.com). hth, w -- wallace winfrey wally@booyaka.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Makes sense, bloglines pulls it's feeds off the web and puts them in their own database before feeding them back to you, so if those internal RSS feeds can't be accessed on the internet, there's no way bloglines will be able to get them. Bloglines is sweet though. Always up to date & sync'ed (well, no need to sync really) RSS feeds anywhere in the world where you can get your hands on a webbrowser, how cool is that. -- "progress doesn't come from early risers progress is made by lazy men looking for easier ways to do things" http://n3wjack.blogspot.com http://www.jungletrain.net - 24/7 dnb radio station --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

At home and at work I use Sage, a lightweight RSS and Atom feed reader extension for Mozilla Firefox. http://sage.mozdev.org. What does Sage do ? - Reads RSS (2.0, 1.0, 0.9x) and Atom feeds - Newspaper feed rendering customizable via style sheets - Feed Discovery - Integrates with Firefox's bookmark storage and Live Bookmarks - Imports and exports OPML feed lists - Technorati and RSS search engine integration - Support for a number of locales: Argentine Spanish, Catalan, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Slovenian, Spanish, and Swedish - Simple, one step install / uninstall In internetcafes, libraries etc I use Google Reader http://www.google.com/reader/ In Google Reader you can easily import OPML feed lists generated by Sage and other aggregators Wim --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Personally, I just use the "Live Bookmarks" feature in Firefox. It's not fancy, but it works OK for me since I'm a fairly casual user of RSS. If I was keeping track of lots of feeds on a regular basis, I might consider something more robust.
