For a change from 'Autechre Live' threads... w00t! Squarepusher's playing in Nottingham! But what's the live experience actually like? The warp site suggests that there will be 'Tom Jenkinson solo bass performances and rave sets, and those [shows] with Paul Hession and Mick Beck will host full live jams'... is this liable to lead to a Spinal Tap / Mighty Boosh style Jazz Odyssey, or something more messed up? Thanks David -- "And then what do they do?" "Er, quadratic equations mostly, sir. Fiendishly difficult ones by all accounts." I saw Jenkinson last year in Chicago, when he was touring for Ultravisitor. The answer to your question is much more messed up. One of the best shows I have EVER seen. It was nice to see a one man shoe that consisted of more than laptop diddling. I highly recommend it On Monday, October 3, 2005, at 11:39 AM, David Sim wrote:

Mick Beck, Tom Jenkinson and others played the Spitz a few years back - a live jam from that is on the 'Lo and Behold' comp on Lo Recordings - it's pretty good; interesting improvisational jazzy stuff. (Think 'Music is Rotted...' but more noodly) I saw Squarepusher last year in Brooklyn and it was awesome! He played live bass throughout the whole set (and he improvised basslines over Kenny Muhammad's beatboxing as an encore as well :) Matt --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i've been meaning to ask the list some Ultravisitor questions... firstly, when the appearance of 'live recordings' into 'studio recordings' occurs, how much of this is real? it's a really cool effect, and a really cool idea to do it to this extent, just wondering if anyone knows how much is true, as i wouldn't be surprised or blame him for just constructing the experience at points. secondly, is it Tom who plays what sounds like classical acoustic guitar on some tracks? jesus. amazingly complex, deftly played and composed. if that is all tom, that is just absolutely frightening. ps. i'm actually quite fond of Ultravisitor and Go Plastic. nat. http://www.littlefurythings.net

No shit. Ultravisitor was definitely my favorite release of 2004. I have hooked many stupid friends into the Colorado jam scene with Ultravisitor. For those that find any computer music repetitive and talentless, Ultravisitor is a good first step. I found the infrequency of typical drill'n'bass tracks on this album interesting. Ultravisitor and District Line II were great, but I wanted more. Then, thanks to Tom, we got Squarewindow and Venus 17. Wow, what a fantabulous artist. I can't sing this man's praises enough. I just pray to God he'll come back to the US. nat hawks <natbot@hotmail.com> wrote:i've been meaning to ask the list some Ultravisitor questions... firstly, when the appearance of 'live recordings' into 'studio recordings' occurs, how much of this is real? it's a really cool effect, and a really cool idea to do it to this extent, just wondering if anyone knows how much is true, as i wouldn't be surprised or blame him for just constructing the experience at points. secondly, is it Tom who plays what sounds like classical acoustic guitar on some tracks? jesus. amazingly complex, deftly played and composed. if that is all tom, that is just absolutely frightening. ps. i'm actually quite fond of Ultravisitor and Go Plastic. nat. http://www.littlefurythings.net

i'll second that, the song tetra-sync has become one of my all time favorite tracks. nat, yes the bass & guitar on SP albums are usually him, as are most of the drum parts on Ultravisitor. I've seen some great bass players live, Les Claypool and Victor Wooten being some of the best, but Tom put them both to shame, mind blowing talent.........
