Hailing from North America's Mecca of minimal sounds, Montreal's Pheek has
been blazing a brilliant path into the future of music, and gaining
international acclaim in the process. Born Jean Patrice "JP" Remillard, in
1998 this lifelong music fan, early rave enthusiast, and college radio DJ
attended a performance by Richie Hawtin/Plastikman that would forever change
his perspective on music. Inspired by this performance, he adopted the
moniker Pheek, and within a year he was performing his own original material
live and soon released his first 12". In the six years that have followed,
JP has been making a steady ascent to the upper echelons of the
minimal/micro scene's most respected and innovative producers and
performers. His style is rooted in the funky, minimal sounds of German
tech-house, but is tempered with a heady dose of the ethereal and
experimental, resulting in a unique sound all his own. In 2005, now with 3
European tours, 4 full length albums and numerous acclaimed EPs on labels
such as Telegraph, Clever Music, Tic Tac Toe, Thinner, Epsilonlab, and his
own Archipel under his belt, Pheek's talent is getting the worldwide
recognition it deserves. This year has been an especially exciting one for
JP. After getting extensive play by DJs such as Richie Hawtin and Magda,
Pheek was invited to contribute a track to M-nus Records' first ever
compilation, Minimize to Maximize, and also landed an EP on Jay Haze's
Contexterrior label, alongside such artists as Haze, Ricardo Villalobos, and
Robag Wruhme. To top things off, he was invited to perform live at both
Montreal's MUTEK Festival, where he played at the Finale, as well as Detroit's
FUSE-IN Festival (formerly the DEMF) where he delivered an unforgettable set
on the Underground Stage. Needless to say, we at KONTROL are hugely excited
and honored to be hosting Pheek in his first ever San Francisco performance. Do
not miss this one, kids.

Claude VonStroke (better known to we locals as Barclay Crenshaw) is the
man behind San Francisco's hottest new tech-house label, Dirtybird
Records. Raised
in the suburbs of Detroit, Barclay eventually moved to Hollywood and began
working on feature films. Realizing that the visual medium wasn't his
calling, he moved back to downtown Detroit and fell in love with the beat. He
began producing music and soon found a way to fuse his skills and experience
in video with his passion for electronic music. He moved to San Francisco
and in 2003 released Intellect, a six hour DVD package, self-directed and
produced, which covered the worldwide electronic music scene and included
interviews with the likes of Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Swayzak, Derrick
Carter, Deep Dish, Magda, Kit Clayton and many more. In SF Barclay met
Justin and Christian Martin and Worthy and together they started Dirtybird,
with Crenshaw at the helm. The rest, as they say, is history. Dirtybird
Records is currently shaking tailfeathers worldwide with a series of
successful releases by Justin Martin & Sammy D and Mr. VonStroke himself.
With remix work by John Tejada and Freaks, and Claude's upcoming remixes for
Frankie, Jay Tripwire, and Justin Martin, it's no mystery why the Dirtybird
has taken flight and is ready to soar to international prominence. Bring a
bar of soap, because when Claude VonStroke is behind the decks, it's gonna
get dirty.
