..so can anyone reccommend some summery listening? I've got plenty of glitchcore, tech-dub, and isolationist droning, but almost nothing IDMish with a bit of sunshine to it. So yes, I'm seeking reccommendations for anything for relaxing in the garden with a beer with while keeping that 'what the hell planet did this just land from' vibe. And possibly some musical discussion not involving Autechre... Thanks David -- "Man - I thought you knew that algebra was all razmatazz. There's this release by The Album Leaf called 'In a Safe Place' that I've found to be... well, just rather *nice* (yeah, I'm up for a reviewer post at 'The Wire' ;-)), for those moments when I'd rather not have my equanimity put at risk by creeping melancholics, or pulled down into chthonic depths, or pummelled by beat breakage. Basically, it won't upset the neighbours or startle the cat, but it won't insult your intelligence. It ain't IDM, but has some of the appeal of its more post-rock oriented practitioners. Not a Huge Recommendation or anything, it's just a pleasant way to be accompanied for 50 minutes. Failing that, there's a new Manual release out in May which might do the trick. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/a/album-leaf/in-a-safe-place.shtml http://www.angryape.com/news/2005/04/manual-azure-vista alan --On 20 April 2005 17:02 +0100 David Sim <pmxds@nottingham.ac.uk> wrote:

I don't know or care which of this is IDM or not; this is music I love, though. Plaid would be high on my list; Boards of Canada, obviously. My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless", and for that matter large bits of Sonic Youth's "Daydream Nation" - both indie loosely speaking, but don't let that put anyone off if they haven't heard either of them. Nearly everything on Morr Music, I'm guessing - the "Blue Skied an' Clear" comp's one I really like, but particularly "Faking the Books" by Lali Puna springs to mind. Ulrich Schnauss's two albums are summer records for me too. The Album Leaf, "In A Safe Place", I echo - and I'd add Tortoise's "It's All Around You", which is in a vaguely similar vein. Fennesz, "Venice" (someone's already mentioned some things by him). For IDM influenced pop, I'd plug Air's "Talkie Walkie", and I'd put Bjork's "Post" in there on the slim offchance anyone hasn't heard it already :) Maybe Four Tet's "Rounds" or M83's "Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts?" Just some ideas, Andrew --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Here's a few recent (2004-2005) albums I think of as summery, or at least doable for summer listening: M.I.A. - Arular (xl) (just fun fun fun, I know I'll be playing it all summer) Jimi Tenor - Beyond The Stars (kitty-yo) (Not exactly IDM, but the ultimate summer joy album for me) Underscore - The Conspiracy of Silence (enpeg) (refreshingly different release, works for me, only $2...) Solvent - Elevators And Oscillators (ghostly intl.) (I second this one; wouldn't have thought it summery on my own, but it definitely is) Vim - Perpetual Autumn (monotonik) (despite the title, light & summery, and free!) Lateduster - Easy Pieces (merck) (laid back in your garden music for sure) Secret Freqrency Crew - Forest of the Echo Downs (schematic) (perhaps overhyped by now, but good, and summery, of the hot & sweaty type) Mr. Projectile - Sinking (merck) (also maybe overhyped by now, but I enjoyed it last summer) Deceptikon - Lost Subject (merck) (laid back drinkin' beers music for sure) I hope any of this is helpful to someone :P -Adam P. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'm not sure what you mean by 'IDMish with a bit of sunshine'. If we can stretch that over to a lazy ambient which nods over towards idm at points, try Pridon's "Health Food Scroll" and Plat's "Compulsion". You said you were stocked on tech-dub or I'd have recommended the new Deadbeat, Mikkel Metal and Dublee projects. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Tracks from this album have been making into my DJ sets a lot lately... one of my fave albums from all time, but i played it out so quickly that it takes a special mood to bring them back into rotation. - xenlab On 4/21/05, eleventhvolume <enquiries@eleventhvolume.com> wrote:

A hot day with an ice cold beer could just prompt that mood... (sunny outside, but with a nip in the air still). Kerrier District - which is just by Kerrier District which is luke vibert. this is house music though, really. and also Sorry I Make You Lush by Luke Vibert. Saddic Gladdic is the number 1 summertime fun jam. Music For Parking Lots - E*Vax is a good one too. sitting at work those are the ones that immediately come to, some of my favorite cd's to listen to on a nice sunday afternoon. josh23 On Wed, 20 Apr 2005 17:17:36 -0500, hime wrote

hahaha. hmm. i suppose it's up for interpretation. but something else just came into my mind. pretty much anything by Kim Hiorthoy is great summer listening stuff...for me. it could be middle of the winter drinking hot cocoa and staring longingly out a window music for someone else, i guess. ;) josh23 On Fri, 22 Apr 2005 13:42:56 -0400, Alan Lucas wrote
