The two that spring to mind are Jan Jelinek's "loop finding jazz records" and Low Res' "Blue Ramen." andrew --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

On the Tipsy remix album that came out last year, there was a track remixed by Messer Chups that got my attention. So I bought a couple of their CD's and really liked them. Kinda loungey, lots of warbly sci-fi synths, spy/surf guitars and a presiding theme of b-movie horror flicks. Also of note is that the duo is Russian. I wanted more so I looked for them on soulseek and found some compilation called "Hyper Utesov Presents..." and it had several Messer Chups tracks on it as well as a really great selection of oddball electronic lounge weirdness from a number of other artists, all with names suggesting Russian descent. Information on Messer Chups and any of the other artists is scarce on the web. Most of what I found is in Russian. But I'm really curious... is there some kind of weirdo lounge music scene going on in Russia? Anyone on the list know more about this stuff? The Messer Chups divider at Kim's Underground has a couple solo CD's by Oleg Kostrov (.5 of Messer Chups) that I haven't had a chance to buy yet, but I'd really like to know more. -Aaron ----- Original Message ----- From: nethed <nethed@ninjatune.net> Date: Wednesday, November 12, 2003 12:13 pm Subject: [idm] re: loungey idm

Messer Chups is Oleg Gitarkin's solo project, focusing more on surf rock and b movies. The main band is Messer Fur Frau Muller (with Oleg Kostrov) which is poppy electronic lounge madness -- most (though not all) of the tracks on Hyper Utesov Presents are actually Messer Fur Frau Muller. Oleg Kostrov's solo stuff is yet more of the same. Between these two there are now about a dozen albums, and really, all of them are excellent.  The Best Messer Fur Frau Muller album is probably "Second Hand Dreams", and I'd recommend the earlier Messer Chups ("Miss Libido 2000") over the last one ("Black Black Magic" -- though this does have some amazing Theremin).  For Oleg Kostrov check out the Iwona tracks, the Snow Queen 12", and Aspirin and Serpentine. Most of their records are available via Germany's Stora records, and here in NYC via Bliss Records. And yes, there does seem to be a bit of a Russian/East European quirky techno lounge scene (if the excellent Legkie Fall/Summer/Winter/Spring comps are any indication).... me --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

There was a compilation released a few years ago (can't remember what it was called, and i've since lost the cd) which had a bunch of remixes of various lounge tracks. My favourite tracks off it were Vibert's April Stevens - Do It Again and Eat Static's Caravan. Can't really remember the other tracks too much, I remember there was a µ-ziq one too, but can't remember if it was any good. The Caravan ranks up there with the best versions of that song. ...skism --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hi. I don´t have much to say about lounge music (although i would recommend Vincent Gallo - 'When' on Warp which in my definition is purest lounge music but its defenitively not IDM) but reading the name of the band mentioned above makes me thinking. If they are russians (or from eastern europe) why do they have a german name (knife for Mrs. Mueller)?
