It's been a while since I sent a self-promoting note out, but I just wanted
to let folks know that I'm going to be DJing with none other than MATTHEW
HERBERT this saturday night at club six. While there's a lot going on that
night (including TOMAS and ANDREW JERVIS' KUSF benefit at Storyville - go
there early, then come get your dance on at club six), you won't find deeper
fare or better dancin' anywhere in the city.
HERBERT is one of the UK's most intriguing artists, fiercely innovative
producers, and dead-funkiest DJs. He's known for percussive house, subtly
off-beat jazz, and politicized plunderphonics under the aliases HERBERT,
DOCTOR ROCKIT, and RADIOBOY. He's recorded with MATMOS and BJORK, and he's
remixed everyone from MOLOKO to ATOM HEART to IAN POOLEY to MR OIZO... in
short, he's the MASTER. As a DJ he mashes up chunky house, deep techno,
classic jack tracks, underground disco, mainstream glam, and experimental
tweakery.
As for me, I'll be diving back into my rejuvenated love for techno and
minimal house with a set heavy on labels like Perlon, Playhouse, Kompakt,
Classic, and the like. Expect South American polyrhythms and sci-fi
squigglery wrapped around that deep 4/4 kick - with just enough acid to fray
the edges. Losing control...
