Nautilus-Sketches (I'm glad I bought this one first and the other one later, because it wouldnt probabley have happenned in reverse order) good old stuff thats new to me this year: To roccoco rot and I-sound:music is a hungry ghost Telefon Tel Aviv-Farenheit fair enough Brothomstates:QTIO ep favorite movie:Donnie Darko favorite new controlled substance:2cb stuff that sucked: Future Sounds of London: The Isness. EEEWWW what happenned? Favorite non-IDM : Waking Life soundtrack Tom Waits: Alice Okay I got carried away, I guess it's not that short. ===== The apocalypse is now! Americans know this, that the only hope is the flying saucers. Do you know how I see the world? Like a person who is dying. It's a worm who is dying to make a butterfly. We must not stop the worm from dying, we must help the worm to die to help the butterfly to be born. We need to dance with death. This world is dying, but very well. We will make a big, big enormous butterfly. You and I will be the first movements in the wings of the butterfly because we are speaking like this.~~ Alejandro Jodorowsky __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! My Picks LPs: Boards of Canada - Geogaddi: Obvious. Bola - Fyuti: Obvious, or at least should be. Digitonal - 23 Things: Quite original, blew me away actually. Akufen - My Way: Amazed this hasn't gotten big. I can play this for superficial LA types and they go nuts. Sigur Ros - (): Not IDM per se. But best album of the year. EPs: Funckarma - Part 5 (12"): Funckarma has officially reached trascendent status. Their contribution is a guaranteed highlight of any comp. "Lignite" is my track of he year. Bistream - Crab Nebula (7"), Radiotherapy (12") These guys write some of the best, most massive melodies out there. Crunch (10") on Delikatessen: I think this came out this year... Arovane - Cycliph (12") Impatiently awaiting the next full length. EOG - Part 3 (12"): Another good one on Dub. _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. I just picked this up yesterday, after sampling the tracks on Toytronic's website. After listening to it, the first track still blows me away. However, for me, the rest of the album just gets an unenthusiastic "meh."

Yeah - I was surprised, I liked this one, too. And now, since I've been so mean and pessimistic lately, I thought I'd do my own little personal final music picks & happy thanksgivings for 2002: Best long-players (and others I'm thankful for): ================ Kristuit Salu vs Morris Nightingale - My Mines I ML - Everyone Looks Like Somebody Else Max Tundra - Mastered By Guy At The Exchange BoC - Geogaddi Jello - Voile Susumu Yokota - The Boy and the Tree Akufen - My Way (maybe...) Bola - Fyuti Proswell - Konami Decal - 404 Not Found Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk Freeform - Human David Bowie - Heathen Jim O'Rourke - I'm Happy, And I'm Singing... (OK, that's an old one, but I just got into it this summer) ...and I just ordered Spark - The Robotic Girl Next Door (on n5MD), and I think from the samples that this is going to be a late addition to my best of 2002. Best singles/eps: ================ Kid 606 - Why I Love Life Proem - No Carrier Autechre - Gantz Graf Um, er, I'm not much of an EP/single person, really. I tend to avoid them like the plague, especially if their on vinyl. Aside from the music, I'm thankful for my girlfriend (now my wife, for those keeping score at home, but I still call her my girlfriend - wife is too strange) - I'm thankful for my little literary discovery this year, Kim Stanley Robinson, and the path he's led me on; I'm thankful for Antarctic penguins (all of them - Emperor, Adelie, Gentoo...); I'm thankful for the few rational minds I meet, and perhaps some of the irrational ones as well; and for the good people in the Green Party, and other people non-violently protesting for peace; and finally, last but not least, I'm thankful for the IDM-list, which, though I delete most of its ramblings and advertisments, I still find bits and pieces of use here, mixed in with the occasional snicker or guffaw. -Adam Piontek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Is his album electronic or Neurosis like? I like some of the Tribes of Neurot stuff, and I guess he used to do stuff with Matmos a long time ago. I havent liked a lot of the recent Neurosis albums though. --- IDM Warp Zone <idmwarpzone@yahoo.com> wrote:

"Best" of 2002 in no order, except the audio.nl comp was my favorite album of the year, a collection of strong, intriguing, tracks from start to finish. albums: v/a audio.nl (audio.nl) v/a Post Office (telegraph) COH (mort aux vaches) v/a Futuristic Experiments #004 (background) Process: Re'processed (traum) v/a Digital Disco (force tracks) Tomas Jirku "Entropy" (intr_version) Pub >Single (ampule) rechord "skokoll" (audio.nl) maetrik "quality exertion" (triebstoff) G-Man "Avanti" (force inc) Theorum THX (minus) Kompakt "Total 4" Morris/Audio Presents Club & Home Entertainment (2x12") (Morris/Audio) singles/eps: Oral 06 (Brinkmann/Nicolai/Pettigand) (oral) Luomo "Body Speaking/Diskonize me" (force tracks) Betrieb "Schecte Vorbilde" (klang) High Tide "Paluka Pir (etc)" (punkt) Dexter "I Don't Care" Theo Parrish "Solitary Flight" (sound signiture) Ricardo Villalobos "Halma" Matthew Herbert vs. Karen Krog "Meaning of Love" (crippled dick) Dryer "2nd EP" (klang) Distillat "Azur" (klang) Robert Hood "Black and White Lab" (m-plant) special mentions: Akufen. I actually didn't like the album, My Way, so much, as it spent so much time with his ultimately cloying radio cut-up thing. However, he put out a slew of fantastic compilation tracks and remixes this year. And if I wasn't starting to be embarrassed by how much tech-house-y stuff I was putting on my list, I would have added the Konvex/Konkav "Midas Touch" and the Trapez "Selection 1" comps which are also very good. As for totally non-electronica related releases, Arvo Part's "Occident Orient" on ECM was pretty interesting, showing a thicker, almost late-romantic style unlike a lot of the early-music-inspired stuff he's well known for. And Bob Brozman and Rene LaCaille's "Dig Dig" is, well, I think of it as being "NPR music" because it's one of those somewhat artificial world music concoctions. However, it's ripping fun and I recommend it for Brozman's ace Hawaiian guitar playing and LaCaille's French Creole balladeering and accordion playing. You know, for when you're sick of kickdrums and those weird chirpy digital glitch highhat sounds. happy new year kurt supine@pendulous.org http://www.pendulous.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
