Hi, I have found myself enjoying d'n'b quite a lot recently, and thought of buying a few cd's. So, what are the finest drum and bass albums you have heard? I'm quite enjoying the chilly jazz-infulenced sound of Good Looking, but I'm also interested in other sorts of drum and bass, for example dark, brekbeat-infulenced and a bit more club-aimed d'n'b. What I'm not looking for, however, is the sort of harsh hardcore-drum'n'bass. The producer-series of Good Looking seems to be quite good. What are the finest discs in that series? What about 4 Hero's Two Pages, it seems to be dividing opinions...What do you think of Nookie's In@thedeepend, Big Bud's Infinity + Infinity or High Contrast's True Colours? Or Photek's Form & Function? What other suggestions can you make? I apologize if some people are offended with these posts not strictly relating to IDM... |visa k. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, it's (finally) a good time to be a drum'n'bass fan again. Britain's booming, but the best I've heard lately is from Brazilian DJ Marky; his mix on StreetBeat (Movement: The Brazilian Job) is really good and has a few of the big hits of late - Shy FX's "Shake UR Body" and his own remix of Jorge Ben's "LK", plus great productions from Bad Company, Marcus Intalex, Total Science, Ed Rush, etc. This might be a good place to start (or continue): http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=C2640 Thoughts on the ones you mentioned... 4 Hero - Two Pages --> unfocused, but occasionally brilliant Big Bud - Infinity + Infinity --> pretty solid Photek - Form & Function --> lots of classics; recommended And finally, a few personal favorite CD's: Older Hardcore: VA - History of Hardcore, Pt. 1-2 4hero - Parallel Universe Omni Trio - most anything Ambient/Intelligent: Endemic Void - Equations LTJ Bukem - Logical Progression 1 or Producer 01 Plug - Drum'n'bass for Papa The Tough Stuff: Dom & Roland - Industry Jonny L - Magnetic Ed Rush - Torque --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

All great suggestions thusfar, but first and foremost go out and buy 'New Forms' by Roni Size and Represent. From what you listed in your message, this would be right up yer alley... Also: anything Blame (his progression sessions 2 mix is definitely worth hunting down) Photek - 'Modus Operandi' & 'Form & Function' Source Direct - 'Exorcise the Demons' Platinum Breakz 1 and 2 on Metalheadz Klute and Polar are (usually) wicked as Shimon/Justes pointed out as well... 9/20/02 11:45:45 AM, visa k <v.kuoppala@pp.inet.fi> wrote:

Some of my favorite jazzy/atmopsheric d'n b: Solid State many releases on different labels like Renegade and Creative Source with a funky edge. Check out the comp on State of the Art recs, love that one... Sci-Clone did a few singles on Metalheadz, a little rougher but still pretty jazzy trough Nathain Haines trumpet solo's. they have a new 12 on People which is very good, no d'n b though, but broken-beat PFM had a release on those Producer series iirc, very chilly. Faith Massive US jungle sometimes mixed with downtempo/nujazz but very good imho Bart

I'm liking Polar's new album. Anything by Klute is brilliant. The new Kosheen album is nice. Photek has a couple new single as Special Forces.
