"Seems" being the operative word here. You wouldn't think it was a success if you were judging according to the IDM lists attitude towards Electroclash. And, after all, we represent the cd buying public (maybe more than you might think). I wonder who the intended audience of this marketing campaign actually *is*. I am guessing it is people like us (not the band). If you want Top 40 exposure, and to sell millions of cd's you need it, you need the radio stations to play your stuff, big, corporate radio stations. Here is a TrackList for Elektroclash, a comp being sold in Virgin Stores: 1. Get Me Off (Peaches Remix) - Basement Jaxx 2. Were Only Science - Dot Allison 3. Euro Trash Girl - Chicks On Speed 4. Hot Room - Linda Lamb 5. Aa XXX - Peaches 6. Do The Radioactive - Radioactive Man 7. Dont Stop The Beat - Anthony Rother 8. Life On MTV - Miss Kitten And The Hacker 9. Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass - 9 1 F 10. Love Explosion - Alden Tyrell 11. Red Leather - Peaches And Gonzales 12. Felix Da Housecat (The Grooveretro Radio Mix) - Ladytron Pla 13. Lucida Obsura - Crossover 14. Please Stay (Royksopp Mix) - Mekon (Feat Mark Almond) 15. Grab My Shaft - Louie Austen (Feat Peaches) 16. Vicious Game - David Carretta 17. Dark Times - Dexorcist 18. I Dont Care - Dexter 19. Shemale - Sir Drew 20. Plastique - Creme De Menthe Are these artists hitting the Billboard charts soon? _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i do the mailorder for a popular nyc record store and we sell A LOT of the electroclash stuff. actually, almost every order i've sent out today has included the new ladytron cd... yuck. but that's just my personal opinion. i guess electroclash is helping to pay my paycheck. yuck. - roy . . . ..... .. . brasilia http://www.unovis.org .... . . ....... . .. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Exactly Roy. Note that I said on an "indie level" meaning with their current aims, they aren't completely reaching the kids who get all their music info on Mtv. I'm not sure how far they've made it in mainstream media, but Spin magazine definitely did a big ole story on it making Williamsburg out to be the mecca of all things new and cool in music as if every person you run into there has rabid electroclash fever. Let's also not forget that Peaches made it onto Mtv. Electroclash is packaged to sell... its got beautiful people talk-singing about sex and glamour on multiple levels of irony and its totally apolitical to boot! Turn on the television... it fits right in. -Aaron The thing about it is that it is NOT a joke. Not at all. W.I.T. really have made all those magazines. The "Electroclash" scene is a carefully constructed PR stunt on an indie level and it seems to be succeeding. "Seems" being the operative word here. what some people also need to realize is that "electroclash" has been tagged to a lot of music that's been in existence far longer than the named fad. i don't think it's fair to toss david carretta in the same camp as louie austen, nor do i think it's fair to throw anthony rother anywhere near any of the rest. rother's been making bad ass electro for years, carretta does a wide range of stuff from hard techno to more electro/kitschy stuff. chicks on speed are hardly a marketing plot given that potuznik and rehberg did a lot of their early production (which is pretty inaccessible, and in my opinion, brilliant!).... I-F, Alden Tyrell, Viewlexx etc..... these are all great producers whose music far transcends any sort of novelty quality, I think. while definitely some of these acts are cashing in on a trend, many of them have been at it for years and are finally reaping some rewards from their efforts. it may not be to everyone's taste but i don't think it deserves to be written off entirely as some cash crop wanna-be conspiracy. some of it is of more substance than others, but i think on the whole there is a lot of good music to be found once you get past the buzz words and press photos... and honestly: i think that stilleben/bunker records guys would laugh at the idea that they are trying to cash in on their music in any genuinely commercial way. m.mercer :: design + sound design :: http://www.matthewmercer.com/ sound :: http://www.mattmercer.com/ _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I agree 100%. And that is part of the thing that upsets me the most. I love electro, that's why I'm so damn pissed that a lot (and it's a lot) of groups and fans don't know who these people are nor care. Plus, they are being duped. It's hard to make the blanket statements I've been saying as older groups are getting lumped in. And they certainly weren't writing songs about their Beverly hills condo (do I need repost that audio file). The real shit is being re-written, that's what chaps my ass.

for the most part i don't really care for electro but some of the electroclash stuff that's pretty trendy right now is right up my alley... i think there's pretty vast differences between a lot of the newer stuff and the original (dare i say vintage?) stuff... i don't think electroclash threatens to displace electro's space in the annals of electronic music, so it's really nothing to get your panties in a bunch about. really, electroclash is just about having fun, being beautiful, doing lots of coke off of strippers' tits and driving fast. gregory ===== //the fawn// performing live at the lab in costa mesa 09/04/02//////?/ 0123456789!@#$%^&*()_+ glitchitty-poppy-catch-all-phrase- turning-indie-tech *from the people who put the sty in style __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
