things lately i've been hooked on: anthony rother "hacker" (psi49net) no one does electro the way mr. rother does. the psicity comp on his label a few months ago was killer, but all of the best tracks were his own. this album supports that by offering up a really nice slab of digital german electro. "dualis" is totally amazing, to pick a favorite track off of this... although really, the whole thing is excellent. kid606 "why i love life" 3" (tigerbeat6) i prefer this style to his mashup stuff... it just sounds a little more thoughtful to me. either way, i like this quite a bit. those who liked "gq on the eq" will probably like this, too. v/a "international deejay gigolos vol. 6" (gigolo) i don't care if it's a trend, i really like the gigolo camp. they were doing this before it was considered trendy, anyway, and will probably keep on doing it when the "electroclash" marketing phenomenon has faded away. 2 full CDs, some exclusive tracks... running from total new-wave redux (twins, crossover) to harder techno (vitalic) to electropop (tommie sunshine) and a lot more in between. a great intro to the label... unmixed. i still think the most reliable labels out there right now are kompakt and bpitch control, despite neither one of them being especially "IDM" although bpitch certainly has crossovers on a regular basis. i'm rarely disappointed by any release on kompakt (i faithfully pick up all of them now), and pretty much the same with bpitch. perlon is also pretty hot, in my opinion, although their releases seem to be even more consistent (meaning a lot of it starts to sound similar). i also just pulled back out my tujiko noriko cd on mego and it's sounding mighty tasty to me right now. matt

and a big one : for this list I'd have to mention Rather Interesting = Uwe Schmidt. IMO he can run circles around most everyone in programming and if you go through his catalog, he's not only prolific, but multi-talented. From FAXed out ambience to sweat-invoking crunch (e.g., Schnittstelle) to Senor Coconut, Lisa Carbon, XXX, Lassigue Bendthaus, Flextone, etc. Lots here for the IDM fan. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
