Well, there's Joi, Shiva Chandra, Nitin Sawhney, Transglobal Underground, Natasha Atlas - quite a recent compilation (I know you specified NO comps!) is: V/A ORIENTATION - New Asian & Oriental Sounds released on Poets Club Records in Nov. 2001. Quite an enjoyable tongue-in-cheek comp from last year on the Outcaste label is "The Bombay Jazz Palace" although you might call that "And not that reconstituted Bollywood compilation BS." :-) Obviously there's also Anokha (Talvin Singh) and the pretty good Sony V/A from '97 titled Eastern Uprising : Dance Music f/t Asian Underground. And lots, lots more that would fall into the 'world music' category.
