I just read a comment in this thread regarding people not wanting to
"sell out" by having their photograph taken.
I for one, am a photographer, and I have been summarily disappointed by
the infantile behaviour I have encountered at times when trying to
photograph people whom I consider to be extremely talented.
My photography is my creative outlet, as opposed to making music. My
subject matter of choice has for years been whatever music I am
exploring. I have been inspired by the work of photographers like
myself, who decades before me, hung out in smoky places capturing on
film those wonderful moments with their own vision.
I would argue for this, if only as a visual way for these moments to be
experienced for those not able to be present, for limits due to
distance, or time, or whatever.
Perhaps what is being debated here is the intended imposition of
instant(only) gratification, versus a more comprehensive comprehensive
of what is really going on in this "music scene"
I would encourage those who are incensed by this thread to take a minute
to evaluate their current value system regarding IDM, and see if perhaps
it could stand a little expansion.
cheers,
Lisa b
