I wouldn't really bother buying AMG's published material. You can find the majority of the reviews on the web, which makes up the bulk of the book. Not that their reviews are extremely insightful or helpful, either. The bulk of the book is the reviews, not actual commentary or articles on electronic music. Additionally, although their categorization of musical styles and subsequent definitions are mildly interesting, they don't provide much actual knowledge about what it exactly is you're looking for. About the only things I found worthwhile in this book were the musical timelines and essays at the end, which comprised about 30 pages of an otherwise massive tome. There are better books on electronic music history and culture, if you put in the time to find them whether it be on amazon's homepage or at your local library. Isn't that the problem with all A-Z record guides though? You've got to know what you're looking for if you want to find it... Woh. I just blew my own mind. if you're in the nyc/brooklyn area... i'll be playing indiepop and electronica at enid's on sunday, june 9th around 10pm. please come out and enjoy a few relaxing drinks while listening to me force my musical tastes on all the williamsburg hipsters! enid's is located at 560 Manhattan Avenue (at Driggs) in Brooklyn. take the L train to the bedford stop, walk with the traffic on bedford until you reach a park on the right. cut through the park to the opposite corner and walk straight down driggs about 2-3 blocks. enid's is on the corner of manhattan and driggs. say hi if you come! - roy brasilia http://www.unovis.org __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
