Today, Dec 2 is the Something Else Big Band performance. 20 laptop performers will gather as an "orchestra" to celebrate the birthday of Philip Von Zweck's great radio show. This is a live, unrehearsed performance. For my part, I will be tweaking out strange sine waves, cut-up instrumentals and general binaural strangeness. As for the rest, anything can happen. Something Else features electronic, electro-acoustic, acousmatic and all-around experimental audio weekly from 10 PM to 2 AM on Sunday nights. If you're in the Chicago area, you can tune in to WLUW at frequency modulation 88.7. For friends and family far away, you can channel an internet broadcast from http://www.wluw.org. WLUW is Loyola University's radio station. I am in no way affiliated with WLUW, just happy to be a part of the celebration. Enjoy. ___________________________ Christopher Sorg Multimedia Artist/Instructor http://www.enteract.com/~csorg csorg@enteract.com --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Something Else Big Band (rebroadcast) Sunday, June 9th, from 10PM - 2AM WLUW Chicago, 88.7 FM online broadcast at http://www.wluw.org On December 2, 2001, Philip Von Zweck gathered a group of at least 20 musicians using laptops, computers and various electronics to celebrate the anniversary of his radio show. Everything from field recordings, live micing techniques, circuit-bent electronics to Max/MSP patches is included. Also, there's a list of most of the performers who were involved at http://www.mark4.net/sometingelse.html. The first two hours are a nice, ambient mess; the last two become more spare as the group begins to thin out. You can especially hear my microsound-ish meanderings in the last hour of the broadcast, and I finish out the set. At any rate, it's a rare opportunity to hear such an outlandish orchestra. Check it out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Christopher Sorg Multimedia Artist/Instructor The School of the Art Institute of Chicago http://csorg.cjb.net csorg@artic.edu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

As, um, a friend of two of the participants (Colin Olan and Jim Warchol (Loam)), I can, uh, 2nd-and-a-half the recommendation.
