-> MERZBOW: MEGO 040_A Taste Of... (CD)
release date: 15052002
One more bulletin from the depths of Masami Akita's hard drive.
Ever since going 'digital' a few years his schedule is relenting as ever.
For his debut full length for Mego, Merzbow presents a sparkling hommage
to delicate art of japanese cuisine. Four tasty tracks full of
Akita's trademark filter sweeps, distorted rhythmn passages.
Raw and sophisticated.
To whet you appetite the tracks and recipes are as follows:
1.Sponge Octopus
stewed octopus, stewed beef, shellfish,
weatherfish, balloon fish, etc.
2.Turban Shell Blues
young yellowtail, minced raw pompano fish,
lobster, turban shell cooked in the shell,
bamboo shoot boiled plain, etc.
3.Tempura in Moss Garden(Frog Variation 011101)
shrimp, Sillago, squid, Bai Shell, chicken,
green pepper, yellow bell pepper, fresh shiitake mushroom
sweet potato, bringjal, etc.
with Tempura Koromo, Miso, Lomon, Soup of Tempura, etc.
4.Sponge Carp
baked carp, raw carp, soup of carp, miso, etc

-> KEVIN DRUMM: MEGO 053_Sheer Hellish Miasma (CD)
release date: 24052002
Kevin Drumm returns with a devastating sonic display on Mego.
Utilising guitar, tapes, mics, pedals, analogue synthesizer and some
computer assistance Drumm has concocted a sonic beast comprising
2 extended tracks bookended by shorter works. Like the output of Tony Conrad,
Masami Akita, Whitehouse and others this CD has been mastered at extreme
levels and demands playback of a similar nature. In doing so one is taken on
an intense journey of storming feedback, open audio onslaught and somewhat
savaged sonics. The extreme end of anarchic electronics and possibly a hint
of nordic musical violence is present throughout the much of the disc.
The two centrepiece's encapsulate it's essence: "Hitting the Pavement"
is a staggering 20 minutes of blizzard drone, whilst the 24 minute
epic "Inferno" engulfs the listener in a hail of torrential electronics,
jackhammer sinewaves and general 'evil' disguised as 'music'.
It's not all buzzing brimstone with the gentle "Cloudy" providing
a calm following the storm.
In total? A din of arms, the fierce swell of damaged drone and the shriek
of subtle shifting sonic slaughter ... for the seasoned, a bountiful sonic
feast awaits, for the meek it's intense and rewarding - noise rarely sounds
this exhilarating.

.....................................................
-> PURE: Home is where my harddic is Vol 1 (CD)
Consisting of two recordings of PURE´s live appearances in winter 2001/2002.
The first track is the entire recording of a gig at the HÖRBAR,
a monthly club in Hamburg, Germany that takes place in a small old cinema.
Playing in the movie room created a very intense atmosphere as compared
to other venues. The 38 min improvised piece interweaves low frequencies
with orchestral sounds into dense, unsettling structures, only to dissolve
them in its peaceful finish.
The second track is an excerpt of a concert given at ANIKI BÓBÓ, Porto,
Portugal. Its minimal algorithmic patterns slowly evolve into a
swaying string figure that is finished by processed vocal parts.

The kart racing weekend turned out to be quite exciting again - at
least if you compare it to the boring F1-races this time, seeing only
the same teutonic nightmare in front. The pretty popular RMC-series
is bringing up 34 starters,
the top 3 of the 1st race-day (see greinbach report) are carrying
extra weight of 10/7/4 kg, which makes results as seen in the
formula 1 series impossible.
Friday - testing the new radio transmitter video system
Of course we used the friday track time for optimizing the kart
setup, but also we used the test day for more research on our onboard
video-system, after the first radio transmitted tests (see greinbach
report) were not really satisfying.
This time we tried a different equipment, based on easy-to-get
components and much cheaper and even superior in terms of weight.
The tests went pretty well and the concept will be followed.
we will be able to upload some even more exciting onboard videos soon.
Saturday - Qualifying
Saturday was qualification day. The lap times we achieved on the friday
free training did not made us too optimistic. We tested only one single
day on the new - during the wintertime rebuilt - A1-speedworld track.
The MEGO driver Mario Neugebauer recovered just in time from an ugly infection,
which kept him with antibiotike in bed the week before. But of course he wasn't
as top-fit as usual. But this time the team was well prepared for the
qualification modus of only doing 7 laps within 30 minutes.
Mario was send to the track in a perfect moment and found a free track in
front of him. Nevertheless the best qualification lap was again behind the
possibilities. 0.3 sec slower then in free practice meant position 16th on the
starting grid to race 1.
Sunday - the races
The raceday on sunday was the first summer day of this season,
which resulted in a great mood througout the whole field of 140 drivers.
Race 1 started very motivated. As happened in Greinbach, Mario left
the track before finishing lap 1 and had to go through the field
(again) from behind. Stout-hearted Mario went through the field,
overtook 10 other drivers and finished on position 22.
In race 2 Mario finished lap 1 without any problem and started real
racing. He made a great job getting up to position 11, while showing
great duels with Alfred Berger (606) and Mario Rosensteiner (629).
Fighting for position 10 in lap 18 some centimeters were missing and
Mario landed on the inner curbs of the corner to the backstraight.
Mario continued just to get off the track only one lap later, badly enough
also the final lap and was counted 20 something. Markus Grömer (618) even
finished the lap outside the fence which is closing the race track area.
Christoph Rieger (625) was easily going 1 sec faster then the rest
und finished all 2 races as the unchallenged winner. Respect!
We are one step closer to our goal of broadcasting live onboard
pictures, but still without championship points. Although this
disappointing fact, Mario enjoyed the 2nd run due to some nice fights
very much.
