i actually interviewed that dude a little while ago when Tristeza played NYC, cant even remember his name (i'm such a douche), and he said he's recording the next AlbumLeaf with the singer from SigurRos at their new homemade studio. and if that wasn't cool enough, he said he heard some of (singer from SigurRos)'s solo material and that it sounded "like really melodic aphex twin"... granted all ignints refer to god when speaking of demi-gods, but i bet it rules nonetheless.

the album leaf is jimmy lavalle (also done time in tristeza, the locust, crimson curse, and gogogo airheart). nice mellow rhodesy stuff. we have a live set available for download at http://www.imputor.com/v.so-stuff.php .. it's very dreamy and wonderfull. it was a special ambient set, no drums, machines, or anything, just some keyes and a guitar. stunningly beautiful stuff. incidentally, tristeza just returned to san diego from a 2 month european tour.. did anybody on the other side of the pond catch one of their shows? how was it? also of note, tristeza released a remix album a month ago with remixes by artsts such as marumari, randomnumber, diagram of suburban choas, fridge, and others. it's called "mixed signals" ... highly recommended. love xoxoxox, -j On Thu, 9 May 2002, nat hawks wrote:

yeah, jimmy is the album leaf, on the records it's all him for the most part. when he plays out he gets random members together every tour is different.

for the record, i'm pretty sure that in tristeza, jimmy is mostly guitar, right? "orchestrated rise to a fall" is actually a little stronger than "be on time" in my book. when we were I and when we were II are excellent. also has a longish ambient recording, very nice. the "off white room" EP is OK, but not essential. very nice melodic / emotional stuff. powerful in spite of its utter simplicity. look forward to the sigur ros collaboration. fans should check out all the tristeza stuff and also six parts seven. respect, Jeff Davis fon: 216.266.69696 pHlow@earthlink.net fax: 216.266.2360 home.earthlink.net\~phlow cel: 216.533.6303 hyperreal.org\music\rotator\ -----Original Message----- From: William Samuels [mailto:w_technoir@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, May 09, 2002 8:19 PM To: j snod; idm@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: [idm] RE: AlbumLeaf/SigurRos I love the "Asleep" and "Vermillion" on One Day I'll Be On Time. That's awesome. I saw Sigur Ros in LA last time they were out here. Went to both of the dates, The Album Leaf opened up one of the nights. I love all the indy bands that are coming out of San Diego these days. And that's badass that TAL and the guy from Sigur Ros are making music together. Any info on a release date or anything? I know this list is set up for experimental-ish type electronic, but can we talk about experimental-ish rock? Heh. Heavy Vegetable is one of the best rock bands I've ever heard. Crazy structure, beautiful male/female vocal harmonies, Rob Crow is a genius. Oh yeah, and the Tristeza drummer's name is Jimmy Lavalle. I believe. I'm waiting for Tristeza to tour again, never seen them live yet. Agh! I know nothing of him or his projects except the following: he did a split release with lesser on VC about five years ago and I picked it up for the lesser. After not paying much attention to it, one day I heard "I'm gonna kill that fucking fly" by "accident" and it blew me away. I kinda forgot about him until I read this post. I don't know much of his work, but this split did have a few tracks from another project of his that I did not care for at all. Most of his solo work, though... Anyone like the Lonesome Organist? They both seem to throw some of the best sounds together. Oh well. Brandon Crazy structure,

Yep, I almost forgot about his split w/ LSR. To this day, he often sports an OG 10-year old Lesser shirt when he performs. The other project you're talking about is his semi-thrash band "Fantassy Mission Force" which also included Pea Hix (his conspirator in Optiganally Yours). I believe that Pea has some stuff coming out on Tigerbeat, under the alias Fossil. There are some fossil tracks to be had at http://www.mp3it.com/ Good stuff. -j On Thu, 9 May 2002, Brandon Smith wrote:
