Well, after having a chance to (sort-of) compare three releases (by coincidence) i found that Proem's 'Among Others' (N5MD), Somatic Responses upcoming full length 'Dying Language' (Ad Noiseam) and Andre Estermann's 'Balloon' (Sellwell) are quite similar in style. Ranging from rhythmic, bouncy melodies to abrasive and abstract electronics, all three of these titles have deep basslines paralleled with sharp production. Three excellent releases i think many list members should look into.. Websites for the releases listed above are :: N5MD :: www.n5md.com Ad Noiseam :: www.adnoiseam.com Sellwell :: www.sellwell.de Another release that didn't get too much mention last year was Tim Tetlow's 'Beauty Walks a Razor's Edge' on Planet-Mu (i would compare this album to early Aphex Twin, and at points even surpassing that era..) Preciously crafted ambient electronics with some of the most beautiful melodies, rhythms, and percussion.. A definite highlight album from 2001 that i still play even today.. fans of estermann's work will also undoubtedly enjoy the cloinc disc "lonely bits". it's andre + jan bruhnke (sp?) from the electric sheep record on MaS. it's on sellwell too. andre's crystal raindrop melodies are everpresent there as well. respect, Jeff Davis fon: 216.266.69696 pHlow@earthlink.net fax: 216.266.2360 home.earthlink.net\~phlow cel: 216.533.6303 hyperreal.org\music\rotator\ -----Original Message----- From: audio::nimbus [mailto:audionimbus@hotmail.com] Sent: Friday, March 01, 2002 6:51 PM To: IDM List Cc: Ambient List Subject: [idm] Proem, Somatic Responses, Andre Estermann, Tim Tetlow Well, after having a chance to (sort-of) compare three releases (by coincidence) i found that Proem's 'Among Others' (N5MD), Somatic Responses upcoming full length 'Dying Language' (Ad Noiseam) and Andre Estermann's 'Balloon' (Sellwell) are quite similar in style. Hello, I miss being at CJAM 91.5 as well, however.. i moved from Windsor to Orange, California in the middle of Dec. 2001. The show came to a close at the end of November, as i passed the time slot to a good friend (Mike Taylor) who now runs 'Current Electronic'. Audio::Nimbus, as you know.. is back as an online-broadcast with Enough Records' streaming on Sunday's. I am also planning on getting a spot at KUCI, Irvine (88.9FM, www.kuci.com) where my girlfriend and i will host Digital::Nimbus. Stay tuned for more.. Thanks in advance for your comments about Audio::Nimbus, that brings a warm smile to my face. It really does mean a lot. While the Proem 'Among Others' and Somatic Responses 'Dying Language'(which is out btw) are both incredible releases, to my ears, the don't really sound all that similar. The proem is a alot more subdued and mellow while the somatics disc has more tension too it. I can HIGHLY, recommend both discs :) Rob ::::::Component Records::::::: Box 783, Somers, Ct 06071 www.componentrecords.com Out Now: Neutronic-"The Mutation Engine" ----- Original Message ----- From: audio::nimbus <audionimbus@hotmail.com> To: IDM List <idm@hyperreal.org> Cc: Ambient List <ambient@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, March 01, 2002 6:51 PM Subject: [idm] Proem, Somatic Responses, Andre Estermann, Tim Tetlow Well, after having a chance to (sort-of) compare three releases (by coincidence) i found that Proem's 'Among Others' (N5MD), Somatic Responses upcoming full length 'Dying Language' (Ad Noiseam) and Andre Estermann's 'Balloon' (Sellwell) are quite similar in style.
