Maybe Mr. Piontek can help here, but what is the attraction to Proem? All the stuff I've listened to, which has been a fair amount, has just been pads, pads pads. And more pads! And then, when you think there couldn't be any more pads, what happens? MORE PADS!! Maybe I just like harmonics and melodies that don't take 5 minutes to get through the first measure :P derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- snappy one-liner --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I don't think I can help. I mean, I honestly have no idea what you're talking about re: pads, so that criticism admittedly goes over my head. I know enough to know he's not the most complex music maker out there, but he fits a niche in my head, and I like him. I would think people would complain about all the time-stretching and echoing he uses, but even there, I think he uses it to great effect... I'm a bit confused, though, did pietro mean that these artists were the "next big thing" or that they were boring him and making him also wonder what the "next big thing" would be? My vote goes for Leafcutter John & Christ Clark :P ===== .Adam http://www.damek.org/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Well, pads are those long, chorused notes that have a slow attack rate. They're usually in the background, but when they're in the foreground, they can emulate something like a swell of stringed instruments. As far as listening for them, just play a Proem song, or two. Those things you're hearing that aren't beats or sound effects? Those be pads. derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

So *that's* what that is... I like them. Another idm-list example of "it's a matter of taste" (I should clarify - I like his use of them...) ===== .Adam http://www.damek.org/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I meant that these would be the "next big thing" in my books. I'm not referring to genre's as there's a few too many to list.. My point was that the artist's mentioned have been creating quite a good stir in the electronic fields deserving the attention. At this time, i guess i could also add a few more that don't get enough discussion on this list.. ( i guess i could probably discuss all these artists a bit more, but with Radio, Magazine, and DJ spots, timing is usually limited, so here goes.. Artists Deserving more Recognition.. 0 Sense (Merck, Aural Industries, Neferiu, Neo Ouija) 0 Ambidextrous (Merck, Neo Ouija, Art-Tek) 0 Alexandroid (Art-Tek) 0 Solenoid (Emanate, OMCO) 0 Novel 23 (Art-Tek, Shaped Harmonics) 0 Jet Jaguar (Involve) 0 Tim Koch (DeFocus, Aural Industries) 0 CiM (DeFocus) 0 Detroit Escalator Co. (Ferox, Peacefrog) 0 Tom Churchill (Emoticon) You can also tune in Audio::Nimbus on Enough Radio every Sunday evening to hear these artists played.. http://enough.box.sk/v2/radio Pietro. || audio::nimbus :: pietro@audionimbus.com .. .. .. || www.audionimbus.com, www.igloomag.com || p.o. box 443, orange - california, 92856 .. .. ..
