Do people find Aemic's Beta pic disc poor quality? I didn't think it sounded too bad.... - jeremy -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

There is always some degree of hum on pic discs I think. It is audible on Beta too. Don't have it handy, so I cant say if it is better or worse than others... I usually don't complain. It isn't that bad during music. Although I remember WARP's old AI series. As I heard they are pretty "famous" of sounding bad... I had the limited Black Dog - Bytes and Autechre - Incunabula on bronze and silver vinyl. They sounded somewhat compressed and dirty(?) I have never listened to the black vinyls, so I cant compare them... The CDs at this instance sounded a lot better than the (now ever so valuable) colored vinyls. I just remembered another picture disc i have that probably sounds "better" because it is a picture disc: Pure's "end.of.vinyl" on mego. Sourced from runout grooves and other vinyl noises, IIRC, so the pic disc hum could be considered an improvement over the digital crispness of the cd.... well, that was fairly pointless... - jeremy -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I personally buy a record to listen to the music on the record, not the record itself. That's also why most analog "purists" are as bad as 7DC's. derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

If you're asking how do I know what is what on the record i was talking about, its pretty easy to determine. The sounds used in the tracks are _sourced_ from vinyl, and then manipulated into sprawling walls of ambient noise, hums and clicks. So it isn't just straight recordings of run-out grooves, it uses vinyl noise as the basis of its sound. - jeremy
