I know plenty of girls that like IDM. In fact, if anyone went to the Kid606 show at the Knitting Factory in LA, you would have seen many females, dressed up/dressed down, *not* necessarily hanging on their boyfriends arm, digging the music. I don't think many girls really *care* about dorky boys drooling over synths, but I know plenty of *boys* that don't care about dorky boys drooling over synths. If the music is interesting in any way beyond how it was created, there will be people that are attracted to it. The only reason there's this geeky boys club elitism is from a bunch of people that get so involved in their little programming world they temporarily lose track of their social skills (I say this out of experience). Then there are the affected intellectual wannabes...who are very wack. -l -l[e^2] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I don't get it. Sorry my English is too bad for that. First I said I had never met a girl who likes idm (without mentioning stupid sexist approaches). Then you say I'm blind if I do not see other girls on this list. In response I say that though I'm perfectly sure there ARE girls who like idm and some of them I had correspondence with (i.e. Irene MC is extremely nice person) but I have never met any person from this list anyway as I live in Ukraine and it seems that I'm the only listmemeber from here. So.... What does your last message mean? Why do you mention males? Sorry I'm probably too stupid to get that. 8)

So's this! The whole reason I don't use a Mac or NT is because I ENJOY USING DOS!! =). Anyway...my housemate just came home with a copy of the new BoC ep. IMO it's very disappointing, all very repetitive and not changing very much all the way through each track. I realise that a lot of people might like this, and maybe the changes are too subtle for me to notice on a single listen. Irritating. On the other hand, I'm really feeling the Marshall Mathers LP. Dre's productions is great as usual except for the cheesy synth-cello sound on 'Kim'. That said, 'Kim' is the most angry track I've heard for a long while. Makes my scalp tingle each time it plays. Welcome to the Eminem list :-) Is that the one dedicated to the lovely Kimberley, his wife - who was recently rushed to hospital due to a bungled suicide attempt after a Kurt Cobain like dislike at being thrust into the limelight ... ?? I'm referring to women who post on the list. Clearly these are women who like IDM. I never said you had to have met them in person. I meant "blind" as in you can see the _posts_. And I wasn't just talking to you, I was talking to everybody in this thread (especially whoever started it) who seems to be talking as if they are unaware of the fact there there are women on the list. It's riduculous having a thread like "why don't like girls like IDM" on this list when there are all these women around! (As for use of the word 'met', I tend to use it differently depending on the context, sometimes I mean in RL, other times I mean online. Better think about that one, I realize it can be confusing!) Recent aquisitions: Various Artists - Isophlux 1995-2000 (Isophlux) Gimmik - Slow Motion Process (Worm Interface) Plus One - Bare Necessities (Defocus) Various Artists - Cottage Industries (Neo Ouija) Fizzarum - Monochrome Plural (Domino) It's hard to give a good review for all of these, it would simply be a list of ever-more-excessive sounding superlatives. IMO they are all essential. It's hard to chose, but at the moment the stand-out release for me is the Gimmik album, it's really soulful and very beautiful. Brought a tear to my eye. But that goes for so much of this music. Mostly in a classic style, I think realeases like these put paid to the theory that all the best stuff was realesed back in the nineties. There is a lot of seriously good music here, as good as anything Warp ever released in the AI series. Ross. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Konstantin Minko" <ibss@ukrpack.net>

I have just found this board and it's nice to see some cool stuff going around. Already found out some nice new music through the posts. Maybe you all will like the sounds at this site -http://www.quberecords.com. It's an artist oriented electronic indie label out of the UK. Tech/house/ambient, and artist not genre oriented. You can stream all of the catalogue from the site. Let me know what you think. Regards, Chris

Keeping with the flow, the new Accelera Deck on Neo Ouija (_Digital Headrest_) is quite nice (but then again, what on Neo Ouija isn't? or on CCO for that matter?). Susumu Yokota's _Will_ on Leaf is quite delightful. The new Eardrum 12" is wonderful, but in a very different way. I've really begun to enjoy _Aurora_ on Merck. 'Tis a shame I really just started listening to it after months. The Lackluster track stands out. And I can't wait for the new Yunx 12"! Ok, in an attempt to sway the conversation away from nonsense. I figured I'd talk about some music. Here's what I've been listening to lately: The new phonem on morr: great stuff kinda reminds me of a cross between proem and richard devine Beefcake:Drei: Lots of great ideas jammed into 3 minute tracks. Richard Devine: Aleamapper: Definately a departure from his Lipswitch record. Very cinematic. Zod Mix 2: one of the better IDMish mix cds I've heard. Bola:Fyuiti(or however its spelled): I'm not really sure why people were disappointed with this. its sounds like the logical progression fron "soup to me" Some older stuff: Scorn: Logghi Barroghi Arcon 2 cd on reinforced: alot of these tracks are the background music for fist of the northstar U-ziq: Brace yourself Ep. Thomas Fehlman retrospective and oh yeah a bunch of unreleased proem tracks :) Things I'm looking forward to: The new Boards of Canada Somatic Responses CD on Ad Noiseam Rob ::::::Component Records::::::: Box 783, Somers, Ct 06071 www.componentrecords.com Out Now: Neutronic-"The Mutation Engine" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

maybe I should give it another chance, but phonem just doesn't do it for me. tickita-tickita diddle-dee dum dum dum ... boring.

*yawn* - his first schematic EP was very nice and intricately bouncy, danceable yet definitely detailed. Where I had hoped schematic and its ilk would stay, but no chance - quickly felt they needed to get smarter and weirder, a la later Devine and the Otto Vonetian Snares kid. In keeping with the list, I think they're all gay, especially Devine.

agreed - pleasant, pastoral, sometimes passionate; you can tell a lot of work went into it. Funny how this does it for me while Aleamapper doesn't.

I haven't picked up anything new in a while. I'm stilling waiting to get that Dabrye stuff and Smaze's stuff. I lub me that post-hop whatchamacallits. But lo and behold, in my audiogalaxy folder this morning sits that new album by that mysterious outfit that all the trolls have been flinging shit and sniffing their fingers at lately... I went to the listening party, so I've heard it, but I refuse to subject myself to mp3s before I get a copy of the record for real. A test of wills indeed. Thanks audiogalaxy for sending me shit without asking... Btw, I thought that the sound system at the party was bad and by the brief listen i had (10 secs, sue me), it appears that it was indeed crap. Not quite as glitchy as the sound system lent it... i agree that the new phonem is pretty good, although i think i prefer "hydroelectric." this one is a bit darker and i give him props for moving forward, if only slightly.
quoted 2 lines Richard Devine: Aleamapper: Definately a departure from his Lipswitch>Richard Devine: Aleamapper: Definately a departure from his Lipswitch >record. Very cinematic.
i agree again, but i think in this instance it's refreshing to see devine completely abandon the skittery mechanical rhythm structures that were starting to become a signature sound, and also starting to become predictable. aleamapper is a pretty sharp step away from that and in that sense it's pretty interesting.
quoted 1 line Thomas Fehlman retrospective>Thomas Fehlman retrospective
he also just released a 12" on kompakt called "whistle" which is pretty good. other things of interest in lieu of flamewars: no one has yet mentioned the AGF CD on orthlorng musork, which i think is a really great release. it's the singer from laub solo, doing a lot of deconstructed vocal tracks, somewhat in the vein of what she was doing with vladislav delay on the "clickhop" compilation, only without the beats, more ambience and texture. it's sort of like the way fennesz treats his guitars, only with female voice. i also really like the gold chains EP on the same label, although i've not seen it mentioned much... when i saw that guy perform a while ago i thought "is this for real?" but the EP is really slick, great production, a knack for humorous and clever rhymes as well as atypical arrangements and details. it's not really hip hop, but it's not really IDM or anything else easily categorized. i give him major credit for taking a great stereolab track ("crest") and making it even better by turning it into a party-rap anthem. (seriously!) the traum "elektronisch musik--interkontinental" compilation CD is really nice too. in the vein of the kompakt pop ambient series, this includes mostly beatless or low-key tracks by artists including philippe cam, miss dinky, m.i.a., akufen, process, fairmont, tomas jirku and more. in a similar style is tim hecker's new one on subtractif, "haunt me haunt me do it again," which is a significant departure from his jetone deep techno and opts for clean, melancholy ambience, drawing loose comparisons to the more moody work of fennesz in its use of processed guitar. lastly both of the new mille plateaux/force inc compilations, "smoked meat" and "composure," are worth looking into if you are at all into the glitchy cut-up techno sound being explored by the artists therein.... the smoked meat disc is stronger overall with new tracks by akufen (whose "quebec nightclub" 12" on perlon is brilliant), mitchell akiyama, jetone, jeff milligan, deadbeat, orazio fantini and more. "composure" is somewhat similar in technique to richie hawtin's last mix CD in that it's all reconstructed using software and loops from all of the forcelab 12" releases (which include sutekh, noto, geoff white, vita and many more). on a slightly less related note, i saw miss kitten and the hacker tear it up at a local club not long ago... worth seeing if you have the opportunity. they basically did every track on their new gigolo CD and nothing new but it's worth seeing, nonetheless :-) _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

utter shite, really. And I even like droning and abstract music. The tracks get some points from me for sounding somewhat sinister but, c'mon, 30$- I wouldn't even download the tracks for free because the HD space could be used for something better. No variations, no rhythms, no melodies, just frequencies. You could get the same effect from a small engine motor connected to a low-pass filter. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
