I now have the second GESCOM EP on SKAM, thanks to the efficient mail-order at Ambient Soho, and I have now become fascinated by the braille strips which appear on the covers of each EP I cannot read braille, but by a process of deduction, I believe have almost deciphered it on the first it says SKAM xxx GESCOM and on the second it says GESCOM EP SKA xxC Where the x represent characters I have been unable to work out I believe they must refer to the catalog numbers, which are 02 and 03 respectively Can anyone help? For those that don't have the EPs, the dot layout for the characters is: : .: : in the first, and '' : .: '' in the second '' And something else - does anyone know what SKA(M) 01 is ?? cheers, J ^ __ ___ ___ _ __ __ (__` | (_ /_\ | \ \_/ _ | .__) | (___ / \ |__/ / \_| steady-J@firefox.co.uk

There is definitely no SKAM01 (why brackets?) 'cos I've asked Ged one of the two collaborators behind SKAM records. As for the braille I haven't got round to asking him yet, but will soon. Hope this comes in handy! Neural Research Labs. on now: Autechre - Flightdeck (not available yet - no flames please)

I'm not sure but I think I have SKAM001. It's definitely the first release on that label! It was packaged in a white 12" mailing case (you know, the big funky cardboard things) with SKAM written on it in Braille. Its got 4 tracks which range in style from majestic floating strings-driven mellow tunes to rough hard techno breakbeats. I bought a copy off of Sean Booth in Ambient Soho the day it came out, and I remember raving about it on this list about a year ago! Anyway I'll go home and check the catalogue number and see if it is SKAM 1. Brendan Nelson Lost Transmission From Uxbridge

Yeah, not SKAM001 though. Like I said no-one has that. But it exists :)

maybe i was a bit naive to think that "amon tobin live at the knitting factory" meant that i was going to see amon perform his music. rather it was him and "p-love" playing records. so maybe it is completely impossible to perform electronic music live - it can only be done by playing records on turntables. and even if amon can play a handful of instruments, i guess it wouldnt really have been his music, since he mainly writes electronic music (which we now know can only be performed by being played off a record). maybe one thing that enhanced the live experience was the exceedingly high volume at which the music was played. loud treble, heavy bass, and an omitted midrange really give it that club feel. who wants to hear all of that musical stuff in the middle when we came to hear the beats loop over and over? the beats certainly inspired the crowd to move and dance in all different ways. as it was a sold out show, the small roomspace made it a nice, snug atmosphere. it seemed like there were alot of smokers in the crowd, so it was probably good that the tight ventilation kept all the smoke in so they could recycle their tobacco smoke (cigarettes are getting expensive these days). i'm not a drinker, but i bet those who guzzled a 6pack before the show enjoyed the concert even more than i. all in all, the music was interesting, nice and repetitive, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. it was good and long. amon even played a couple of his songs. well, i'm awfully tired and its after 4am, so i'll cut some of the details and thank amon tobin for taking my 22 dollars and 2db of my hearing. chris --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The SCAM sale of a full DJ setup is appearing on a wide range of email lists around the San Francisco bay area and beyond today. If you see this offer on another list, PLEASE warn the list that it is NOT true. (See the new email, which I am including below.) Characteristics of the scam: 1. Each time the site is hosted on iwarp.com. 2. Each time, the sale has been for a LOT of equipment for only $500 - $600. Too good to be true, and it is. Never buy used equipment without seeing it first or without some enforcable delivery guarantee. Period.

yes, that $500 deal is definitely a scam. i emailed the guy about it about a few weeks ago and he said that all the equipment was actually selling for $400 plus $50 for shipping and $50 to cover the Great Western wiring fee. he also said he lived in new york, which is where i am. so, i told him i would give him $500 cash in person and just pick everything up myself--thereby giving him an extra $100 and allowing me to check out the equipment and avoid having to make a shady money transfer. needless to say, the guy never wrote back. -jacky p.s. otomi--thanks for the demo....have yet to listen to it since the amp burned out on my sound system :( ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Otomi ;\)" <idmgirldj@yahoo.com> To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] Skam Date: Sun, 3 Feb 2002 00:50:16 -0800 (PST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: from [209.133.83.22] by hotmail.com (3.2) with ESMTP id MHotMailBE264530009D40042A1ED18553160FD30; Sun, 03 Feb 2002 00:52:00 -0800 Received: (qmail 8319 invoked by uid 1153); 3 Feb 2002 08:50:03 -0000 Received: (qmail 8309 invoked from network); 3 Feb 2002 08:50:02 -0000 From idm-return-47205-dafunkymunky Sun, 03 Feb 2002 00:52:52 -0800 Mailing-List: contact idm-help@hyperreal.org; run by ezmlm Precedence: bulk X-No-Archive: yes list-help: <mailto:idm-help@hyperreal.org> list-unsubscribe: <mailto:idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org> list-post: <mailto:idm@hyperreal.org> Delivered-To: mailing list idm@hyperreal.org Message-ID: <20020203085016.16380.qmail@web14803.mail.yahoo.com> In-Reply-To: <001301c1ac01$19ab3540$6401a8c0@gescom> X-Spam-Rating: taz3.hyperreal.org 1.6.2 0/1000/N The SCAM sale of a full DJ setup is appearing on a wide range of email lists around the San Francisco bay area and beyond today.
