Where is Hackett when you need him! I'd imagine that he'd say check out stuff on UR, Model 500, Octave One, Stacey Pullen, Robert Hood and stuff like that. I am sure he'd point you in the direction of B-12 and Stasis. Personally I have been getting into the electro side of things such as Peel Seamus, Christian Kleine, found at www.morrmusic.com

I recomend "Additional Productions" with that remix for Bjork. "Vice-versa" is also interesting, specially the remix for A Guy Called Gerald with Louise Rhodes from Lamb, but it fails to surprise me, maybe because I already knew most of the remixes.

I like it, although I don't think it is a masterpiece. There was a bootleg in the web with a Funkstorung concert which I think it was pretty good.

No, it was neither Funkstorung nor Plaid. Maybe Mark Bell himself (I don't remember). Cesar --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I wasn't that impressed by "Appetite". The "instrumental" numbers sound like Tri Repetae era Ae, but less interesting, and the rap/vocal numbers sound like someone rapping or singing over Tri Repeatae era Ae, with little effort to integrate the human noises with the machine noises. The album isn't _bad_, per se, it's just that if you like the straight-up IDM you'd be better off listening to other Ae or Ae-inspired material (md, brothomstates) and if you like the glitch-hop, you'd be better off listening to Machine Drum or East Flatbush Project. (If anyone can recommend a better implementation of the trip-hop chanteuse vs. IDM material, I'd appreciate it.) As always, YMMV. -- Kevin Murphy "If the name of your company scores more than 75 points in Scrabble, go home. You're done. Appetite for Disctruction is topnoch...well the muzak is dunno about the rapping not the best. But the sounds are fucked up... wicked stuff, mind you to appreciate it I recon u need a decent sound system. Its got proper bass and the production is very nice..... as for the man freidman ... check out drome the final corporate colonisation of the concious, ambient dub scape stuff on ninja tune. Oh and nonplace urban feild raum fur noitzen (got mine on ebay... funny german release i think) + check out golden star by nonplace, leasure zones by burnt on his own......any more erm...check the discogs this man puts on a good show...ya das ist gut.... err atom heart , i likke him... not as tight as mr freidman but check los sampleros for crazyness and senor coconut:El gran baile ... dunno who said he sucks but he/she failed no reason why....not a very good argument doh!? I will say that there never seems to be a mention of to rococo rot ...suppose its one of those "is it idm ?" discussions....not that they are needed as there is no way to define a genre perfectly ...probaly as they only exist for people who sell musak for them to create a customer base........ i like to think my musical tastes arent hindered by such things...... ooh i do like the lost highway soundtrack...nice ....rammenstein...hehehe ----- Original Message ----- From: "César Laia" <cesar.laia@popsrv.ist.utl.pt> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2002 3:29 PM Subject: Re: [idm] favoriteremixers/FUnkstorung?

On my way in to work today I'm listening to Kirk deGiorgio's new one (21st Century Soul - excellent though not as gripping as his other new release: As One: Offworld). I'm sitting on the train pondering this interface between jazz and Detroit Techno and it occurs to me that I'm really ignorant about the latter. It's talked about as a marvellous thing, but the little I've heard doesn't sound like a great step on from the Kraftwerk. I know, I know - cloth ears. But I'd really like to address the issue by someone giving me a top 10 classic Detroit Techno tracks so I can start exploring. I'm not asking for anything definitive, but if anyone can give me this I'd be really grateful. Cheers, Colin. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Tall order! Lots to choose from. Just off the cuff, start with The Martian's Red Planet --- Wonderful! Also check out Drexciya; Juan Atkins, E-Dancer, Kenny Larkin's "Azimuth" album from way back, obviously Derrick May. In fact, the True People double CD on React (1996) might be a good collection to introduce you. Happy hunting! yeah, i just recently discovered UR's "Codebreaker". The track on the long side of the ep is terrific. I didn't know UR had it in 'em. I guess it's a lot sunnier than most of their stuff. It's got that swing beat. It's got the P-Funk-like burbles. And yet it's still ripping techno. Damn. are there other tracks in that vein out there? I mean, I guess there must be a million, but what's another great one? Speaking of stuff from Detroit, I'm really liking the sharp, minimal electro-booty of the Erotek "Guess Your Weight" ep... As to the original poster's query (sorry seem to have lost who that was), there's a detroit techno mailing list called "313" served by hyperreal.org http://music.hyperreal.org/lists/313/ I'd add Jeff Mills to the short list. Maybe the "Waveform Transmission" series? k
