the new stuff
carpark is planning a busy 2002. starting off the 2002 release
schedule is the carpark debut by greg davis entitled "arbor." you
can find more info about it at the carpark shop
(<
http://www.carparkrecords.com/carparkshop.html>www.carparkrecords.com/carparkshop.html)
"arbor" is a beautiful mix of acoustic guitar, laptop, organs, and
glockenspiel. to give you more of an idea greg is a big fan of jim
o'rourke and leo kottke. the record hits shops on february 19th.
planned for march of 2002 is the marumari remix cd. remixers include
electric company, to rococo rot, lusine, cex, greg davis, casino vs.
japan, lackluster, and stars as eyes. the cd will also feature the
marumari "baby m" video as well as a short video about marumari's dog
bacon with music by o9.
april should see the carpark debut of japanese artist ogurusu
norihide. ogurusu is a friend of takagi masakatsu and is studying to
be a shinto priest in tokyo. his music is a unique balance of piano,
acoustic guitar, and laptop. no one element takes over the other.
ogurusu has self-released two eps in japan and carpark will be
putting them out as one cd tentatively entitled "humour." should
appeal to fans of the beatles, jorge ben, taylor deupree, and brian
eno. more to come!
carpark will also be working more with takagi masakatsu. we're
excited to report that takagi will release his "journal for people"
dvd on daisyworld (<
http://www.daisyworld.co.jp>www.daisyworld.co.jp)
in japan this july. this is the label run by hosono from yellow
magic orchestra. this is a really great opportunity for takagi!
carpark will release journal for people in territories outside japan.
we also have some other projects planned with takagi but can't
announce anything yet :)
and of course we didn't forget about the safety scissors/kit clayton
ping pong cd. not sure of a release date but it is a 2002 release.
we recently heard a track from it and it sounds amazing. can't wait
for this one to come out.
whew! and those are only the DEFINITE releases planned for 2002.
marumari baby m video on mtv2 in north america
"baby m" premiered on mtv2's amp last friday! it was video #2 right
after clinic and right before death in vegas. we apologize for
misleading everyone in the last newsletter as we thought the video
would be showing two weeks ago. it's in rotation now so check out
amp from 10 to midnight every friday on mtv2 in north america. you
can also vote for the video on the mtv2 request website
(<
http://www.mtv.com/onair/mtv2/requests.jhtml>http://www.mtv.com/onair/mtv2/requests.jhtml)
so do your part and vote!
the video has also been getting play on musique plus in canada, mtv
europe, and viva in germany.
carpark in chains
we now have carpark keychains. carpark #13 is a lovely white thingie
with the blue carpark logo on it. the keychain also features an
infrared light which will help you find your key hole in the
dark. the keychain also doubles as an excellent track finder for
djs! carpark is offering the keychains exclusively through the
carpark shop for 3 dollars. however since we are in the holiday
spirit, we will include one FREE with any carpark shop order over
$15! how's that for something? plus you'll get a carpark sticker
too! this offer will be around until christmas.
more gossip
those looking to expand their marumari collection will be interested
to know about a couple new non-carpark releases. marumari has a
track on the contact records' fort thunder tribute compilation.
included here are lightning bolt, quintron, fucking champs, black
dice, lesser, the music tapes and more. also be on the lookout for
the new tristeza remix record called "mixed signals" on tigerstyle.
marumari is on there with sientific american, styrofoam, windy and
carl, lackluster, simon raymonde (from the cocteau twins) and others.
this one is coming out february 5th.
takagi masakatsu's "pia" cd has been ranked #78 in the amazon.com's
music editor's top 100 of 2001. also lookout for a feature on
"japanese minimalism" featuring takagi in an upcoming issue of mojo
magazine. takagi will be spending a good deal of the spring in
germany this year, so if anyone in the area is interested in seeing
takagi's amazing live show please do get in touch!
also circulating through the rumor mill is news that greg davis will
be touring europe this spring with hrvatski. more details to come.
look out for hrvatski's full length on planet mu and an upcoming
release as keith fullerton whitman on kranky.
til next year
thanks for reading...happy holidays!
best,
todd
