sorry if you know already....come represent, Peter Saturday, Dec 1st TONIC 8pm-12 $10 CHESSIE [ Overnight (Plug Research) ] Begun in 1993 as the project of Stephen Gardner from Arlington, VA, Chessie explores the physical, emotional, and aesthetic aspects of railways through sound. Gardner, who has worked for and traveled extensively on railways, processes his railroad experiences through various Electro-acoustic production methods including analog tape techniques, acoustic instruments, and sequencer-less recordings. Following two full length LP/CD's (Drop Beat's 1997's "Signal Series" and 1999's "Meet") and various singles, Gardner was joined full-time by Ben Bailes, a sound engineer and producer based in New York City, who has been listening intently to the world around him for as long as he can remember. The two started collaborating in 1998 while Gardner was recording "Meet", and came to enjoy working as a duo. In the summer of 2000, Gardner and Bailes began writing and recording "Overnight", a new LP/CD that features 9 compositions dedicated to railways and train travel throughout the night. http://plugresearch.com TIMEBLIND [ Rugged Redemption (Orthlorng Musork) ] Equal parts mad scientist and booty banger, Chris Sattinger (Timeblind) has made all kinds of music. Classically trained (and self-untrained), a licensed jazz saxophonist, and a veteran techno dj and producer, there's little left to do but disassemble it all... Rugged Redemption (Orthlorng Musork 2001) drops dub, pure techno and free jazz as its earthly reference points, varying from seriously-abstract hip-hop to sonic puddles of DSP haze. Early releases ranged from dysfunctional hardcore, ethereal breaks (as Mothering Noise 1994 on Instinct), to hybrids like dub-analog- breakcore (1995 Infidelity) and banging abstract techno (Richie Hawtin's Probe, Communique, Synewave, Kanzleramt). He has played live with Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath, Joey Beltram and basically everybody else in techno. "One of the year's best--and most startling--records." - XLR8R "Showing complete irreverence for all the styles of music this record slyly alludes to, Sattinger succeeds in pushing the edge of current electronic muisc without falling into any kind of genre trap." - kid606 "... Sattinger carries it out with skill, in the process coming up with a record that sounds unlike anything else." - THE WIRE http://crucial-systems.com VELOCETTE [ changes in the rhythm of life (Parallel) ] velocette (aka jason williams) returns to album mode with "changes in the rhythm of life", the follow up to '96's sonorities by starlight on reflective records, jonah sharp's seminal san francisco label. this outing continues along the path of his previous releases on his own parallel records, but pushes further afield. elements of techno, electro, ambient & house coalesce into a structure that has been called 'difficult to categorize,' 'moody' & 'melodic,' as well as 'deep as fuck' & 'ass-kicking.' after releasing 3 EPs (microcosmik, clockworks, voda) & the sonorities LP on reflective, williams started parallel in 1997, with the release of the auto da f? EP (from which two tracks were heard in iara lee's film Modulations.) in addition to 3 more velocette EP's (airtight, memories for the future, RE), parallel has released williams' collaborations with jonah sharp, & with kit clayton under the name I-Liner (which was given 5 stars by muzik magazine) as well as EPs by clayton & chris sattinger aka keek. fall 2000 saw the release of idiosyncratic expressions, a parallel compilation. "...his melodic hemisphere...is inhabited by few contemporaries, particularly in the US...meticulously crafted freaky-alien-techno-love- jams"- URB http://parallelsite.net _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
