i've been listening to the 'night owls 01' compilation just out on Electric Birds. It, also, must be commended, it's a really cohesive, beautiful and textured piece of work. theres one Electric Birds track, one remix also by Mike, and another project, with Mike and Jon Santos called 'parts:places'. It also features quite a few people i haven't heard before... Esa Ruoho, Aspic, llips, dietrich schoenemann, etherdrag, starfish pool, and some more recognizables, eblake, solid objects and chessie. tres recommended. -thor --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I like Unwound a lot too philippe | 0000 \\\\.. \\\\ __ http://www.bip-hop.com _---||||...\\\\..\\\\ | 0000 --------- unconventional sound adventures ---------- <> | XXX ¨¨¨¨¨¨¨ adventurous & creative electronica ----------- \\ Bovine Life "social electrics" [bleep 06] Award winning UK film maker / digital artist Chris Dooks was known for his film work on musicians such as Scanner for The South Bank Show, to tiny bedroom labels in the middle of nowhere. His first album introduces some solo works, and besides some collaborations with Kohn, Third Eye Foundation, Future Pilot Aka, and artists from labels such as Mego (Alku), Leaf (Ylyptyk), Janek Schaefer, Diskono... If you've ever been put on hold, you'll know that the tune they play down the telephone is a waste of telecommunications ! Not so with Chris’s modem adventures. Bovine Life has been jamming through the modem, speaking in electronic tongues, secreting sounds that vary from being immersed in amniotic fluid, right through to searing bleeps that would make any nation stand to attention ! Enhanced CD features a short movie by Chris Dooks. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I happened on this review of the new Electric Birds CD, and have to say I found its radical approach to syntax strangely compelling, though not entirely illuminating ;-) I think the writer puts it in a nutshell: How otherwise it one have so far escaped could?... she reminds one of nobody the others. alan/beyond...sound ;-) _____________________________________________________________________________ Electric Birds - Gradations - (Mille Plateaux MP112) :: Rough English translation :: Mike Martinez of the Deluxe record label, where it releast already two CD`s, that makes beside still extremely interesting generative web pages with a partner as Parts:Places, convinces one immediately of the fact that there is in the world too much unbelievably good music, which one knows, how otherwise it one have so far escaped could? Its TRACKS do not move in still long times angedachten somewhere field from acoustic music and digital kneeling star, raise unbelievably close beautiful melodies, work so near and well-known, as if one would have had them always already in the head, on the other hand in addition, each mark again on the new fascinatingly, is sometimes strictly conceived, then simply only lucky, probably is her all that always at the same time. Its TRACKS consist of some at raw material, often also concretely, acoustically evenly, as it meant, before the reality was somehow elsewhere computed, them so beautiful moves in constructions the sometimes simple Beats to be seems, then again rather architecture, and although that is Powerbook music naturally somehow, she reminds one of nobody the others. Brilliant. We continue to investigate. Mike Martinez belongs anyhow on the list of the large discoveries of the last years. ____________________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP: www-mail.usyd.edu.au --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
