Hello. Blimey, Monolake's "Polaroid/Polaroid(++rmx)" is a bit tasty, isn't it? I've always been a fan of Henke's stuff, but I was expecting yet another wishy-washy ambient techno dub affair. So I stuck this on the turntable and was pleasantly described by the harsher, faster, clankier and thumpier sound. Especially on the remix, which starts off sounding like something from Tri Repetae playing at 45 rpm, then turns into something from Chiastic Slide towards the end as it slowly gets DSPed to fuckery. Yay Monolake! Oh, and the "Cinemascope" album ain't bad either. Basically a continuation of "Gravity". No real surprises, just your usual classy, chilled out Monolake stuff. Defocus's recent releases have been pretty cool too -- Esem's "Ikae" EP and Tim Koch's "Shorts in Alaska" LP. The former sounds like a cleaner CiM, with perhaps a few Bola-esque touches, whilst the latter will put a smile on the faces of C64/SID chip fans -- and should keep a fair few Plaid fans happy too. -- Mark Stevens http://www.insertdisc.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
