so someone on this list was raving about the andre estermann - balloon 2LP recently, so i picked it up. it really is excellent - wonderful meloncholic melodic stuff - just what i like. but here's the funny part: the title track was previously released on andre's M.A.S. 12" in 97 (which also happens to be one of my favorite records). so the song kicks in, and i think - hey, i love this track - then i think - hey this is WAY too fast. and that it dawns on me that i've been listening to the M.A.S. 12" for years at the *wrong* speed. funny thing is, it never even occurred to me to kick it up to 45. i just pulled out the record and listened to it at 45 and i just really can't enjoy it as much at that speed. (of course, that's probably due to a lot of repeated exposure at 33) you may now laugh at me.... just curious - has anyone else had this happen with this or any record? it's one of the things about idm that amuses me the most - so much of it you can get away with listening at whatever speed suits your ears, no? - d np: tim koch - shorts in alaska

Oh, all the time. I bought each of Michael Fakesch's three "Demon" EPs as they were released separately. I briefly tried them at 45, decided the pitch sounded a bit too high and so lived with most of them at 33. Lo and behold, a year or so later, he releases the "Marion" album which contains quite a few of these "Demon" tracks. I bought the CD version and was quite surprised to hear all my favourites now playing at ultra high speed! -- Mark Stevens http://www.insertdisc.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

this is 45"? what about booc, motors, etc im so confused, i always like to listen to things the way their supposed to be, so i can make an honest decision about its creation like the suction 7" with d'archangelo/solvent, always listened to it at 33", and its a 45" its just BETTER at 33 oh well brian _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

To me, it sounds much better at 45 And the PostART 12" flips. one song on each side is 33, the other is 45. On the cd, they're all at 33, but the two 45 songs sound sooo much better at 45. And I definitely agree on the "how is this supposed to sound" question. That's one of the reasons I'm occasionally tempted to pick up the cd counterparts -- to see what the artist put on the cd. I'm usually a little disappointed, since the artists seem to like some drudgingly slow music sometime :\ derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- If atheism is a religion, bald is a hair color. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Did anyone have this problem with the Slag Boom Van Loon remixes? I for one thought the BOC remix sounded good at forty-five but then once the chimpmunk samples kicked in I wasnt so sure...and 33 is way too slow for me. --- EggyToast <youn0394@umn.edu> wrote:

I can't remember what speed I played the Keynell vinyl at. All I know is that whatever speed I played it at, it played at the same speed when I bought the recent CD version! -- Mark Stevens http://www.insertdisc.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

recently, so i picked it >up. it really is excellent - wonderful meloncholic melodic stuff - just what i like. I second this opinion. Very nice album. It's one of the few electronic releases I have liked in a while. Are there any other newer albums like this? ie. Melodic, meloncholic, electronic music. It just seems like you don't hear quality stuff like this very often anymore. But maybe I am just missing out. Any other recommendations along these lines? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
