First of all: hello, i am new to this list. Second: I´ve read an interesting and raving review about the new Chessie record "overnight" in a german online-magazine. Well, the description of the record does not really sound strictly like IDM (whatever that means), there was something said about "ambient" and "postrock" but anyway: Does anyone has some more information about Chessie or does anybody know, where and when this record will be released? mayya __________________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I just received a copy yesterday and havent had a chance to give it a proper listen but below are some details of Chessie and their releases. Regarding the style of Chessie releases, they incorporate a fair amount of processed guitar as well as electronics into their sound to that is why you have terms like postrock assigned to them. I'll be posting a full review of this album shortly. Anyway, there is some info from the Plug Research website: "Begun in 1993 as the project of Stephen Gardner from Arlington, VA, Chessie explores the physical, emotional, and aesthetic aspects of railways through sound. Gardner, who has worked for and traveled extensively on railways, processes his railroad experiences through various Electro-acoustic production methods including analog tape techniques, acoustic instruments, and sequencer-less recordings. Following two full length LP/CD's (Drop Beat's 1997's "Signal Series" and 1999's "Meet") and various singles, Gardner was joined full-time by Ben Bailes, a sound engineer and producer based in New York City, who has been listening intently to the world around him for as long as he can remember. The two started collaborating in 1998 while Gardner was recording "Meet", and came to enjoy working as a duo. In the summer of 2000, Gardner and Bailes began writing and recording "Overnight", a new LP/CD that features 9 compositions dedicated to railways and train travel throughout the night. "Overnight" will be released by Plug Research on September 4th, 2001." Chessie is really one (or two) guys and started out as experiments in multitracking guitar sounds. They were on Drop Beat, before it's unfortunate demise. Their next CD will be released by Plug Research, details at http://www.plugresearch.com While you're there be sure and check out their other artists. I think it's safe to say that their roster is 100% top notch... They're distributed by EFA/Deutschland so it should be broadly available throughout Europe. Chessie's earlier albums may still be available by mail; check http://www.dropbeat.com/order.html You might still get an answer from info@dropbeat.com On Sat, 29 Sep 2001, [iso-8859-1] maya schreiber wrote:

Hey boys, thanks for all the information! I´ve just seen that Chessie was playing in Frankfurt (not far away from where i live) two weeks before and i missed it. Verdammt! While doing all the "research" for Chessie, i found a very, very nice MP3 release on www.2-nd.com. Just click on Nitrada "Love me" on the right side and download the MP3s. I really love it. It´s like IDM-POP. Or maybe IDM for girls ;) __________________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Gesendet von Yahoo! What software do people upon the list use to DJ live? (assuming you are laptopping) I am flirting with the idea of getting PCDJ, as the full versions let you use two soundcards, whereas the free one does not :( I have also heard that traktor is excellent Opinions? georgewilliamson --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

traktor is pretty good, but unfortunately only available for win until now (i guess the mac version will come out in december) you should also check out a new software from ableton called "live". it´s not strictly a dj-tool, but a new sequencer concept. i´ve played around with the beta version and it rocks! more info here: http://www.ableton.com/web/english/products/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
