Same, appreciated! That being said, I find Arca's music to be hit-or-miss for me. His songs feel more like sketches than compositions. Not a fan of his singing voice either, hope he phases that out. Was not impressed with his DJ set but still interested to see how he develops his art. Am considering catching his live performance at the Rbma this month as that does pique my interest On Monday, October 9, 2017, Marcus Kreitzer <markreitzer@gmail.com> wrote:

what i resent about arca is that all of the people doing that style of avante garde music, he seems to present it as personal music, about him, and has imagery and shit about him and his sexuality, really in your face, like, pictures of his dick and stuff so to me it's like, fine, don't get me wrong, go ahead and do your thing, but he just doesn't fit in my collection, like the miley cyrus of chin stroking noise music Clint Anderson Systems Engineer "Freedom -- paint me a picture!" -- Burton Cummings On Mon, Oct 9, 2017 at 10:14 AM, Chris Norton <chrisnorton7777@gmail.com> wrote:

I also feel like his sexuality is extremely overplayed -I remember at Day for Night last year meeting several people who were into Arca more for his image and than his music. They would just talk about how they loved his open sexuality/social media but wouldn't or couldn't discuss the actual art he has produced.

Great points, that's largely how I feel about him as well. I'm not aware of his social media presence or anything like that so the pretentiousness bothers me less. I feel that he's doing great work with making really creature sounding synths (particularly on mutant) but the lack of composition really makes the whole album tiring and noisy. Sketches is a great way of putting it. Anybody have suggestions of similar stuff that's a bit more developed? -- Marcus Kreitzer On Oct 9, 2017, 9:36 AM -0600, Chris Taylor <christaylor415@gmail.com>, wrote:

while idm "austerity" (i think "disassociation" might be a better descriptor?) certainly does have an extra-musical appeal, it seems like a broader range of listener feelings can be projected on that landscape of restraint than you can fit over the hyper-specific ambitious-online-Self-builder thing that Arca is currently doing. to be real general, i think Strong Feelings of ALienation are a big impetus for both Arca and Ae, but there's a self-obsessed quest-for-validation in the former and a craft-obsessed quest-for-transcendence in the latter. makes sense that they wouldnt necessarily appeal to all the same folks... The differences between the two already outlined are fine and totally valid. Just thought it’s worth pointing out that a gender fluid queer identifying person doing their thing, making it work and having great success with it, is something a lot of people will find speaks to and inspires them as much as a fucked up Ae track inspires most of us. We don’t really need validating in society, but it’s of greater benefit and validating to a lot of people that Arca seems to represent/appeal to. Also worth noting that the way Arca presents himself is part of the art he produces along with the music. It just so happens that I can’t particularly get into Arca’s stuff, either. Nice textures and sketches as Clint said. Just not really moi. Not meaning to lecture anyone on this, just worth pointing out and noting as I said. Mem

I would summarize my opinion of Arca as simply a talented producer with a very forceful persona who is maybe just exploring the wrong genre. Maybe I'm wrong and he'll put out something new that will blow me away, but as an introverted person in general I'm not looking to experience a deep human connection with the artist specifically when i'm listening to 'that style' of music.
