My recommendations. Some of these are more "micro," some a little more
"techhy" (when I think of "tech-house," incidentally, it's generally more to
the techno side, a little bit more chugging, not all the pings and squibbles
I attribute to "micro" -- but really, this is all picking nits out of my own
little brain, and certainly nothing like a rulebook, just a guideline):
Perlon -- any and all
Drew Daniels' "Soft Pink Truth" (Soundslike) -- brilliant and quirky and
syncopated and weird
Safety Scissors -- most anything; shares the feel of Drew's record in a way
Kompakt -- obviously. Pretty broad range here, from the more polka-oriented
stuff to the really soft pads of Dettinger, Jonas Bering et al
Festplatten -- a label that's totally underrated. Part of the Mad-Net
collective...
S.I. Futures -- new album on Novamute, suprisingly well suited to a set of
this stuff
Speaking of which, a great launch pad for this is www.mad-net.de.
I've listed some odds and ends -- really, stuff on the peripheries, not
"core" examples, in a sidebar to the article in the current issue of the
Wire (Thom Yorke cover)... Also, just for fun, the set that Fresh Blend and
I did on Betalounge last week (before DJ Spooky) is pretty much all in this
vein.
Cheers
