CD has 22 tracks, vinyl has 15. Vinyl has two tracks which aren't on the CD, CD has erm, more tracks which aren't on the vinyl. Take your pick. Heres a deFocus discography + tracklistings: http://www.egroups.com/files/focusmusic/Miscellaneous/defocus.html

My recommendations. Some of these are more "micro," some a little more "techhy" (when I think of "tech-house," incidentally, it's generally more to the techno side, a little bit more chugging, not all the pings and squibbles I attribute to "micro" -- but really, this is all picking nits out of my own little brain, and certainly nothing like a rulebook, just a guideline): Perlon -- any and all Drew Daniels' "Soft Pink Truth" (Soundslike) -- brilliant and quirky and syncopated and weird Safety Scissors -- most anything; shares the feel of Drew's record in a way Kompakt -- obviously. Pretty broad range here, from the more polka-oriented stuff to the really soft pads of Dettinger, Jonas Bering et al Festplatten -- a label that's totally underrated. Part of the Mad-Net collective... S.I. Futures -- new album on Novamute, suprisingly well suited to a set of this stuff Speaking of which, a great launch pad for this is www.mad-net.de. I've listed some odds and ends -- really, stuff on the peripheries, not "core" examples, in a sidebar to the article in the current issue of the Wire (Thom Yorke cover)... Also, just for fun, the set that Fresh Blend and I did on Betalounge last week (before DJ Spooky) is pretty much all in this vein. ok, so it's beginning to dawn on me that i've been seriously missing the boat on this label. i picked up the +one "bare necessities" album on a whim a couple of months ago (really just because plaid produced it) and was thoroughly impressed - it didn't leave my turntables for several weeks. then, just last week, i was record shopping and i picked up the lackluster "container" 12" - man is it every luverly!!! why the hell didn't i pick this up a year ago? anyway, what i'm wondering is: are the other releases on deFocus similar to these two? i.e. - are they really really focused on melody over and above f*d up beat trickery? what are the essential releases i should look into tracking down? thanks, - d np: apparat - algorythm (and enjoying some slightly f*d up beat trickery :-) ---------------------------------------------------- NetZero Platinum Sign Up Today - Only $9.95 per month! http://my.netzero.net/s/signup?r=platinum&refcd=PT97 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hi. I noticed only one person bothered to help you out with this, and basically said get anything. Great. deFocus has been a favourite of mine since it's first release. Having found out that Clair - the person responsible for the Clear label - was behind it I bought the first Lackluster release straight away. I've always recommended the 'did you see' compilation that was released on deFocus not so long ago. It's very inexpensive and gives you a pretty good idea of what the various artists on deFocus' roster sound like. If you liked the Plus One and Lackluster albums, you should perhaps go for the 'Reference' CD by CiM (the CD has many more tracks than the LP) and the superb 'Warm Data' 12". The Aphelion LP is a bit weird. It's got very arrid, dry production. It's good, but it took a while to grow on me. Also, try and get hold of the Lackluster 'r u oho?' remix e.p. That release is a classic. Hope this is of some help, )Jamesq. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well we didnt have the same motives for checking it out, but I have to second and third this motion by Brother Knapman-- The label is putting out some crown jewels. That Defocus camp is bigger than the UN itself. deFocus has been a favourite of mine since it's first release. Having found out that Clair - the person responsible for the Clear label - was behind it I bought the first Lackluster release straight away. )Jamesq.
