this got me thinking. is there anyone on this list that doesn´t make music him/herself? is there such a thing as an "idm"listener that is nothing but a listener? -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: Static Beats [mailto:static@staticbeats.com] Skickat: den 3 augusti 2001 06:58 Till: The soul that creates Kopia: idm@hyperreal.org Ämne: Re: [idm] New guy here...plz read. While some people hate it, some people genuinely appreciate it. The same goes for posting playlists for weekly radio shows. Some people *only* post self promo spam and nothing else. Some people could care less and post regularly about their latest mp3.com track (this one is the best yet - a dark crunchy idm track that starts off slowly and builds into a distorted bassline with chords on the 8th and 13th bars....etc.) Other people resort to more subtle tactics like an informative sig. Personally, I would highly recommend lurking in the shadows for a while as this list goes through cycles and you might want to see what the temperature is before jumping right in. For what it's worth though, I greatly enjoy receiving info about new unsigned talent - much of the free music they provide is included in my webcasts where they can hopefully get a little more exposure. Hello, Im new to this list...about 5 min....but have been into I.D.M. since the very early 90's. I would like to start by politely asking how you people feel about people posting to this list to promote "band" web site, cd's etc....I am about to start promoting a cd I've just finished to a few labels, and could use some potential listeners to pass through my web site...maybe join the list and get a free copy of the cd.... Im not going to give anymore info on that until I know how you guys feel about people posting that kind of stuff....I know people on some lists and message boards get really angry, even though it is on subject....It is I.D.M. (in my opinion, or at least it would appeal to I.D.M. listeners) Info as soon as I get some feedback. Thats funny ;) Maybe more musicians listen to I.D.M. than the average person out of a respect for the knowledge and creativity it takes to make an original I.D.M. song...by original I dont only mean original as in..it doesn't sound like anyone else, but original as in, not just a bunch of sampled loops and or pre-programmed synth patches and sequences that come with all the little toy "groove-boxes" out there and drum loop libraries(like most of the "Trance" stuff on MP3.com is)...... Like many of the great we all listen to, (in my opinion) a truly original piece of music (no matter the genre),and what makes music worth while all together, is to make it as much a part of you as possible...I consider my music a "digital self"...I tell people when they think they know me, they dont know the half of it, they need to hear my music. Now, I dont only do I.D.M., but my I.D.M. project contains a lot of sound design by me, and all musical data is always written by me, so that to me is like grabbing hold of a piece of my inner-self, and digitalizing it, for the world at large. I'd like to hear everyones music, if you have any online or would like to give me a free cd...email me, my ears are always open. xh (messed up a few times there...sorry,still not used to the way the reply function works here) --- Andreas Tilliander <andreas.tilliander@deo.com> wrote:

*raises hand* and I have *no* interest in DJing or making music myself anytime in the future, short of banging on things randomly on the train or at parties. If I could afford a drum set again, it might be nice to join a [bad] band just for fun :D -Adam --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

this got me thinking. is there anyone on this list that doesn´t make music him/herself? is there such a thing as an "idm"listener that is nothing but a listener? *** I'm trying my hand at remixing a local band, and occasionally I play the maracas with the Deathray Davies or I Love Math... but that's about it.
