Badorb is Alex Paterson's new pseudo- underground label. It is supposed to release a 12" a month each titled with a symbol which is also available on a t-shirt. Yes the tracks on the first three Badorb releases sound good enough that i will be ordering some via the website which will be the only means of distribution. Regarding Witchmann, i believe he is now an official member of the orb so it would be save to assume that there will be some Witchmann involvement on Badorb but probably under a different name because all the badorb artist names are aliases... -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

All I can say is that I got mine due to their messing up my original order for Bobs 1-3, so I'm not sure how they're handling the ordering process for the repress. I simply know that they've repressed them (or repressed some). ??? Lance: as for Bob4 and on, Bob4/Creature is a family member of LX's doing slightly left-of-cheesy ragga/jungle...it has a nice gritty feel to the production and lots of deep bass. Think what jungle sounded like right after it left that Suburban Base period. The "nonexistant" Bob4.5 (which came gratis with Bob4) is drippy, dreamy pseudo ambient/IDMish rhythmic stuff; each of the four tracks is quite unique and has the atmospheric feel of Pomme Fritz or FFWD. Bob5/Multiverse is two longish cuts that feel like Orb old skool. The A starts with a sizzling salsa band riff then dumps into Ultraworld basslines; the B has a quickish kind of high bassline reminiscent of Propellerheads or Bently Rhythm Ace. Definitely worth my money... laz Mxyzptlk wrote:

So what's this about a repress? I thought the whole point was the Badorb releases were pressed and deleted as per the number of orders? Not to rant but so far I have been wholly unimpressed. I bought the subscription and now I regret it. The release schedule is seemingly determined by the alignment of the stars and the shipping schedule is determined by some other form of Garphoo's desire. Every time a BoB release shows up in the mail it is badly folded and dented. It really sucks to have something so limited show up already in bad shape. A little bubble wrap and some padding never hurt anyone else that ships from the UK to the US yunno? Geez. I'm blushing now. I didn't realize they were in such high demand. I got quite a few requests from people wishing to buy my BadOrb's. I subscribed to the series because in the beginning they're release schedule was *supposed* to be every month but was just so spotty that I gave up on coming back to their website over and over again. Also, when the website was first launched it crashed regularly, the ordering page had broken links that led to nowhere and then finally the entire website was removed. It reappeared a few months later but like I said, overall I have been very unimpressed. I expected much higher standards from an Orb affiliation. If this were some obscure IDM label out of Czechoslovakia funded with hard-earned milk money I would be much more sympathetic. These guys have all the resources, all the experience, and plenty of the money to get this thing done right and smoothly. I'm just disappointed now that although I personally take *great* care of my records they arrive with already bent sleeves and certificates. At least I don't have to wonder when it'll show up. One day I open my mailbox and something is there. My apologies - I didn't mean to get anyone's hopes up by implying I didn't want them anymore... I do want them and if my goal was to sell them I'd have bought TWO subscriptions ;-) I will certainly keep you all in mind though when I lose my job and need to pay rent ! quoted 1 line What's all of this about BadOrb...> What's all of this about BadOrb...
BadOrb was a short-lived record label run by The Orb's LX Paterson that was, in my opinion, conceptually brilliant. Every lunar cycle, they'd post short MP3 snippets of a few tracks from a 12" on their site. You'd go and listen and, if you liked them, order the 12". Then, when the next lunar cycle rolled around, they'd press up as many 12"s as orders they'd gotten and then delete the release forever. Most of the music on the 14 12"s they released was pretty solid, too. Thing is, they had absolutely horrible fulfillment problems. It was hard to know whether the fault was with BadOrb itself or with Deviant, who handled the fulfillment, but the result was a series of posts every month or so to the Orb mailing list along the lines of "I haven't gotten mine yet. Has anyone gotten theirs?" and "I got mine today. I'm in Milwaukee." and "I got mine today but it was packaged really poorly and warped." Etc. There were further complications in that you could opt for a subscription and order like 10 in advance, and sometimes the people with subscriptions would get theirs well after everyone else, if they got them at all. I believe when the label finally went under there were people left out there who never got records they paid for. It was an absolute disaster.
quoted 1 line ...and Mughz?>...and Mughz?
Mughz were BadOrb coffee mugs emblazoned with these goofy little satellite/animal hybrid characters that adorned each of the releases. There were also t-shirts (called "Togs") to go with each release that featured the same characters.
