hey all there's plenty of music making folk on here, so i hope someone can help me out with this. I'm looking for a MIDI controller keyboard that will fit on a rack tray (19" wide). could just be two octaves, but i don't want a cheesy PC-only, powered by the computer kind of board. i think the launch pad from e-mu would be good, but they don't make that anymore. i didn't like the one octave keypads, but the sliders are nice. e-mu/ensoniq have those XL-7 things, but they're way too expensive. i don't need the synth, just the controller. fatar doesn't make one short enough. it's driving me crazy trying to find one. any thoughts? thanks, andrew -- Andrew Waggoner publisher/senior editor kineticmagazine.com 8581 Santa Monica Blvd. #461 Los Angeles, CA 90069 p: 310.927.4906 f: 310.289.5953 e: awaggoner@kineticmagazine.com w: http://www.kineticmagazine.com "friends don't send friends HTML emails." http://www.pulsecode.com/resume/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

This is probably close to what you're looking for: http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/jul00/articles/evolution.htm 18.5 inches wide, Two octaves, full-sized keys, runs on batteries if need be. You could also scour for a used Novation MM-10 (pretty much the exact same thing, but out of production). I have one of these and find it to be just fine. Can't really recommend it since I'm no musician and wouldn't know the difference between a good keyboard and a piece of junk but with that said I was able to easily set it up for some Midi based fun with my computer and a softsynth. it's cheap too and that's always nice :) Shimone/Justes http://www.staticbeats.com | Electronic Music For The Mind http://www.shimone.org | Pictures From The Soul ----- Original Message ----- From: "Doug" <umstechi@cc.UManitoba.CA> To: "Andrew Waggoner" <awaggoner@kineticmagazine.com> Cc: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2001 8:50 AM Subject: Re: [idm] MIDI controller question

Try a Novation Bass station - you can pick them up for about £200/$250, and you get a nice analog monosynth thrown in free :-) See it before you buy though, some have wobbly knobs. Hehe, you should browse through classified ads for music gear...'responsive buttons, stiff knobs, smooth action...' Come back Finbar Saunders, all is forgiven :-) Anig Browl _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
