Yes, those are Khoisan languages to which you are referring, and they are spoken in South Africa. Also, those Algorithmic artists' and Surrealists' work are certainly very IDM-like, but the Pointillism of Seurat and possibly even Rorschach sprang into my mind as being somewhat compositionally kindred.
