I just managed to spend 60 quid on vinyl the other day - probably not wise, but at least I've got loads of music to show for it. One thing I picked up was a prefuse 73 EP on Warp - This is amazing - strange cut up melodic electronic hip hop would be the best description. I haven't seen anything about this on their website - are prefuse 73 something to do with Schematic? I've heard a fair amount of schematic stuff but nothing really blew me away until this release. The new Leila albums really good as well, but as for the new Photek - well - I had really high expectations for this. Modus Operandi is one of my all time favourites, but this is just...OK. Some good tracks, but the ones with the cheesy house bloke singing? Horrible. np - Xen Cuts (the vinyl box set really is a thing of beauty) (ignore message to follow) Dan Shoebridge Project Executive The Ops Room Ltd Tel: 020 8410 8000 Fax: 020 8410 8001 Email: Dan.Shoebridge@opsroom.co.uk CONFIDENTIALITY This communication contains information which is confidential and may also be priviledged. Photek : I think the albums art should give us an idea of what he was trying to do. The blue sea and sky and all that. Strangely, on Monday I heard one of those vocal tracks in Virgin (before I bought it) and thought it was some late summer Ibiza come down anthem I'd missed ;) He's got a lot of good ideas and the programming is top notch, but the more I listen, the more I get the impression he just ran out of steam. What's with the dodgy fade out on "Solaris"? I like it never the less. Also get the impression Rupert has been listening to an awful lot of house. Xen Cuts is cool, but as I buy most of Ninja's output, I feel a bit cheated ;) But it's still worth it at the price. Jamie Lidell's album is - well, wierd. Really wierd. I don't know what to make of it. prefuse 73 (1973 prefusion jazz?) is atlanta native scott herren, i havnt heard prefuse 73 yet but scott goes also by savath & savalas (folk songs for trains trees and honey, savath and savalas' lp (ep?) is awesome abstractish downtempo with awesome real guitars), delarosa and asora (new lp coming out i think, 2 kickass tracks on lily of the valley) which is the alias that scott releases the schematic stuff on. Scotts stuff is just plain awesome, i havnt really heard anything that is truly bad from him yet. as for photeks new album id also agree that its ok, glamourama is the first house track that ive liked in a long time, it has this sweet french(?) sampled vocals that i cant get enough of but the rest of the house tracks i think are pretty close to being shit, terminus is sort of typical drumnbass track but with a sweet beginning that has the sound of a jet flying by as the drums drop. Because of the bad house tracks id give it an overall 6, wheras id give modus operandi a 9, and it shows that what photek should probably stick to is drumnbass and breakbeat. leif --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

A few copies of the new Prefuse 73 12" on Warp are in certain UK shops at the moment - Smallfish had some a week or so back. Clear vinyl. Its great stuff - sort of DSP'd, cut-up hip-hop but done really well without ending up its own arse. Nearest comparison would be that amazing Gescom remix of Push Button Objects on Chocolate. || [CiM] || cim@headspacerecordings.co.uk || cim@defocusrecords.co.uk _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I was just mailed four tracks from prefuse 73 and have to say that this shit rocks the house. I don't believe i've ever heard a more successfull blend of idm and hip-hop, whereas funkstorung and company still have a definite white-boy sound about them, prefuse could be bumped in a gold rim hoo-ride =) and not feel particularly out of place. It's got a radical ghetto vibe about it. Does anyone know anything about them, or where i can snag some information on them or just any thoughts..... cdin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The DJ at a radio show I played on was all over these (this?) guys. He played only one track but it was bangin', they sampled Devine Styler. That's all I know. -l on 1/21/01 9:52 AM, Jon at k-rad@swbell.net wrote:

it's scott herren aka delarosa + asora (schematic) and svath + savalas (hefty)... the four tracks are the estrocaro ep on warp. there's also a 10 track cdr floating around on napster (and hotline) that's really good. i think the ep tracks are the worst 4 on it. just my opinion though, they're all fantastic. delarosa has just released an ep called backsome on schematic and will be releasing a full length "agony" soon. Both are also very good. Also a few remixes out there by herren. Hope this helps

Well, according to the credits on the Rapid Transit comp. off Chocolate Industries, Prefuse-73 is none other that Scott Herren of Savath+Savalas and Delarosa+Asora fame... :) (And I've gotta say that said comp is highly recommended...) -- Kurt Bernhard Pruenner --- Haendelstrasse 17 --- 4020 Linz --- Austria Music: http://www.mp3.com/Leak --- Work: http://www.ssw.uni-linz.ac.at .......It might be written "Mindfuck", but it's spelt "L-A-I-N"....... np: Flanger - Bosco's Disposable Driver (Midnight Sound) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
