re: deepchord... i'm pretty certain there's a cd compilation out now that chronicles most of the label's output so far - think there was a review in the most recent xlr8r mag, reviewer panned it as being derivative of the whole basic channel sound if i remember correctly though! personally, that just makes me want to buy it even more as there's not enough of that around to suit my tastes as it is. check the web, there's prolly a site for the label (deepchord.com would be the obvious guess, without looking?) and ditto on the son.sine recommendation - i too love this, it's slower-bpm minimal house with heavy atmospherics and dub layering. spin this with basic channel, burger/ink, swayzak, etc. all the time so if you're into those this one should be your thing. nurture's a great label, they've only put out half a dozen 12"s but every one is excellent - peak:shift is another name to look for... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 07:02:22 +1200 To: "idm" <idm@hyperreal.org> From: "David George" <dbgeorge@mailandnews.com> Subject: deepchord Message-ID: <000001c0c6a7$c4e73a20$b664b4ca@maxabc> Does anyone have any opinions or insites into the deepchord label (www.deepchord.com)? Any recommendations or favourites? I've recently had the chance to check out #9 and #10 and thought they were OK. #10 sounded promising at first but I dunno... it just didn't grab me. At first it reminded me of ridis' record on chain reaction (a record that I've bugged this list about) but there seemed to be something missing. Hmmm... maybe it will grab me after repeated listens. Also - if you enjoy minimal-german-techno styles, then check out the 5th release on nurture, its by son.sine and its darn well excellent. I'm surprised so many people are likening deep chord to Basic Channel, being that basic channel is mostly on ther techno and ambient tip, I would say the similarities are closer to that of Maurizio, although all of the deep chord tracks are different whereas Maurizio are variations on the same programming. I would liken BC to Vladislav Delay, LLuome, and some of the atmnospheric house out of berlin and koln before I would drop the BC reference. It seems almost cliche to me especially since BC sparked the clicky gritty movement along with chain reaction...Bu tbeing that BC releases their last record almost seven years ago...well it doesn't lead me to believe that xlr8r really has their eyes on the big picture of new house. // giles ++ http://www.flatplastic.com Mxyzptlk wrote:
