Actually, I was speaking facetiously. I go see all the people who come through Minneapolis (except mouse on mars, who, of course, happened right in the middle of the week during a bad time. ARGG!!!!), as long as I can actually hear about it without having to be on some obscure "rave list" (barph). I don't care if they're just playing a minidisk, if they at least look like they're having fun. I like watching the stage, because i just "hang out, casual." If something's going on, it's all the better. The solution, my friends, is obvious: ban all childrens' books. If it were not for a certain tale about twisters in Kansas, we poor, deluded, post-ironic children of the late 20th Century would not suffer from fears such as those evinced in the above post -- clinically known as "Ozophobia" or "WLS (Wizard Letdown Syndrome)." I think I would rather experience something unfamiliar behind a laptop, whether it's being made on the fly or reproduced from a sound file, than hear a perfect, note for note reproduction of something i've already heard, in real-time on so-called "real instruments," or that i already have on recording. i would also rather see someone using a DAT just set up a DAT player and hit play rather than hiding it behind a bunch of gear he/she isn't actually using, if that is the case (although hopefully not). and i would definitely rather see someone sitting still, focusing on the _music_ he/she is making, than anyone running around the room with his shirt over his head because he is too uncomfortable with the fact that in actuality nothing is happening on stage that requires his presence. just my .02. bye

I'm certainly can't argue with your preference, but I have to defend this: Some of us run around with our shirts over our heads because we love making a spectacle and being the center of attention. I knew one guy who used to do the craziest, bloodiest shit on stage... because he got jealous of people listening to his music and not watching him! And there ain't nothin wrong with that.
