A former member of Fundamental Wajid Yaseen specialises in a breakbeat noise that is as deep as it is varied. His debut album is entitled 'Irony Is' on Novamute and he has recorded four tracks especially for the XFM Xposure programme on 104.9 at 11pm (UK) tonight, saw 2nd Gen at the Garage London last weekend, excellent. http://www.2ndgen.net/ Colin www.dual.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hello IDMers, Glad to say you that a new Russian label called Shaped Harmonics has released its first product. Here is a press-release: Ambidextrous / Novel 23 "Cross-Split EP" (12", Shaped Harmonics, 2001) Debut release from a young "Shaped Harmonics" label, a split record by two Russian musicians known as Ambidextrous and Novel 23. Six tracks (two from each artist plus two remixes) make an audio cocktail of ingredients such as crunchy electro rhythms, interweaving melodies and distant voice samples. All this can be characterized as IDM with musical, harmonic component being dominant. The record combines modern experimental sound with neo-romantic feeling from the 80s. Glad to see that this is finally being released! I've had a CDR promo of this release for several months now and it's pretty damn good. The description regarding the combination of modern and 80s sounds is quite accurate - one track in particular has this really cool early Depeche Mode groove. Hopefully, some copies of this will make it over to the usual North American outlets. So when and through what channels can we expect to pick up this release stateside? Here's a review of the excellent split 12" on Shaped Harmonics, as reviewed in Igloo Mag (www.igloomag.com) back in November 2000 (glad to see it's finally seeing a full release).. Ambidextrous / Novel 23 :: Cross Split #1 EP (Shaped Harmonics) "...Looking for robotic music with a melodic twist? Skittery beats diced with pleasant rhythms? Look no further..." Ambidextrous and Novel 23 have been shaping sounds for the past few years, and have made a noticeable splash in many digital electronic fields. On this upcoming split 12" for Shaped Harmonics (RU), Ambidextrous and Novel 23 create tunes that dip into a sonic palette of sometimes dark, but mostly upbeat electronic happiness. With the Moscow, Russia based Art-Tek label leading the way for the future of homegrown glitch-ambience, Novel 23 (Roman Belousov) and Ambidextrous (Nick Zavriev) have branched out with digital layers of debris that is sure to tickle your ears. Looking for robotic music with a melodic twist? Skittery beats diced with pleasant rhythms? Well, Cross Split #1 is a fine product of two individuals who's aim is to create atmospheric electronica with a wholesome Russian twist. A-side on this (upcoming) 12" contains three tracks by Ambidextrous --"Sindance" is remixed by Novel 23 and is the highlight of the entire EP. "Visotopia" and "Vox Box" cleans up the A-side leaving you with a craving for more of the Ambidextrous soundwave. B-Side contains three tracks by Novel 23 in a similar style to his Melodies of Childhood For Advanced Imagination (Pitchcadet). The dark and snappy beats on this side looped with ambient washes creates a very peaceful picture of rolling green hills on the countryside on a clear blue day. "The Gateway From Fairy-Tale" is remixed by Ambidextrous with an array of loopy melodic fragments, and subtle clicky beats around the edges. "Walk Now" and "M.L." finish the B-side of this well executed EP. The Cross Split #1 Ep gives robotic machine music a warm vibe while the digital chaos within remains controlled, calm, and soothing.
