Just got a 2Lp comp from this label. Never heard of it before, but it features some great UK hip hop. Figured list members into DJ Vadim, et al might be interested. Features Mark B/Blade, Roots Manuva, Lewis Parker, Skits/ Rodney P/ Skinnyman/ Wildflower/ Riddla/ Primecuts, Braintax, UK Kartel, etc, etc, etc. Very worthwhile.... [If anyone has more info on this label, or Skits, I'd be very interested in learning more...thanks.] Me. --- Peace Hugs and Unity Jason J. Tar W. W. J. D? (What would Jason Do?) Well, this is only following something up from almost a full 7 months ago, but I was wondering whether anythign ever came to light on this? AFAIR, no one replied at the time on-list, but I kept the email just in case something came of it cos it sounds right up my alley. It appears 'Wordlab' is the name of the comp..? Anyone got anything more? AFAIR, no one replied at the time on-list, but I kept the email just in case something came of it cos it sounds right up my alley. It appears 'Wordlab' is the name of the comp..? Anyone got anything more? Wordlab is indeed the name of the comp. the label is called source. Another uk hiphop comp worth picking up is ?raw materials? which now runs into 2 volumes vol.1 is ace:features an awesome london posse cut?well worth picking up. Aaaaahh, the mighty skitz?..releases on ronin records (set up by 23 skidoo) which released the unbelievably good ?fingerprints of the gods? ep which is a uk hiphop classic. Sample (skinny man) lyric:?with a bag of sensimilla and a mic in the other hand?.I smoke a chalice at buckingham palace to get the queen high? (the twilight of the gods song on wordplay is the follow up, and while very good it is not a patch on fingerprints). He has also set up his own label ?champion sounds?. 1 release so far: riddla 12? (with one side produced by skitz??from chalk farm to Clapham junction we won?t bow to the truncheon?). He has also done many remixes (inc. stuff for big dada, namely NFFO, so wendy ninja should be able to fill you in) and has done some awesome stuff wit rodney P (London posse). Basically if you see something produced by skitz, get it?.same goes for the mud family, of which skinny man is a member, when not in jail for dealing pot (see above sample lyric): hard to get hold of, but awesome style. Also v.good: roots manuva, lewis parker (lp on massive attack?s melancholic label), bury crew, mark b and blade (lp recently out on same label as wordlab), phi life cipher (lp on jazz fudge), blak twang, NFFO?..the list goes on?all the above sound british, not american, which makes a nice change from the early ?90s. hope I?ve helped??.. http://www.markbandblade.com http://www.ukhiphopcentral.co.uk _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. *sigh* That makes the third label called Source, doesn't it? There's the French one, the German one, now the UK one.. Ah well, says nothing for the music I guess.
