my $.02:
yeah i don't think i have much to say about the cultural and social
differences between the house-listening club-goers and the chin-strokers
(btw, i REALLY like "chin-strokers"), but here's what i gots to say: there
are certain elements in house that generally aren't present in idm, and
there are elements in idm you won't find in house (no shit). sorry to trail
back to luomo, but one thing that's appealing to me about vocalcity, is that
it takes the sexiness of house, and turns it into a space. the depth of
this music isn't just idm elements tacked onto a funky 4/4, the richness
comes from the elegance (sexiness). this is quite a feat by mr. delay.
sure there are articles in vocalcity that sound kinda glitchy and awkward
(just like we like em), but i don't think that's what draws chin-strokers
into this special house record. the space that has been created by mr.
delay is founded by certain items found in house, not in idm. vocalcity is
simply and elitist's record. i'd be pressed to think of 5 albums in all of
electronic history that are better. a VERY big thing is upon us. it's
obviously changing the way we feel about music, and it's doing so very
rapidly. hats off to mr. delay.
