my $.02: yeah i don't think i have much to say about the cultural and social differences between the house-listening club-goers and the chin-strokers (btw, i REALLY like "chin-strokers"), but here's what i gots to say: there are certain elements in house that generally aren't present in idm, and there are elements in idm you won't find in house (no shit). sorry to trail back to luomo, but one thing that's appealing to me about vocalcity, is that it takes the sexiness of house, and turns it into a space. the depth of this music isn't just idm elements tacked onto a funky 4/4, the richness comes from the elegance (sexiness). this is quite a feat by mr. delay. sure there are articles in vocalcity that sound kinda glitchy and awkward (just like we like em), but i don't think that's what draws chin-strokers into this special house record. the space that has been created by mr. delay is founded by certain items found in house, not in idm. vocalcity is simply and elitist's record. i'd be pressed to think of 5 albums in all of electronic history that are better. a VERY big thing is upon us. it's obviously changing the way we feel about music, and it's doing so very rapidly. hats off to mr. delay. -char _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. word- I don't like beating dead horsies, but I think it should be noted (again) that Vocalcity is not the first outstanding house record, it's simply the first to grab the attention of a lot of IDM people because of mr. delay's history in other styles. I don't want to take anything away from Vocalcity, though. It's fabulous, a landmark in deep house for this year. ps. Tosh, I stopped reading technolist a long time ago, but you're still on top of your game. keep it up -- bbn@saoul.com 604.551.5227 3079 w10th vancouver bc canada v6k 2k7 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I assume you are talking about Luomo's Vocalcity... tracks from this album were played by DJs at both the Perlon (Markus Nikolai & friends) and ~scape nights at the FCMM (new cinema and new media) festival in Montreal last month. Admittedly these weren't strictly house nights. Also if you look at the mad-net charts page at http://www.mad-net.de/cgi-bin/get_playlists.pl Matthias Schaffhaeuser (who also has an album on Force Tracks) has had Luomo in his charts for a couple of months. He also mentions a Luomo remix album on its way: - Luomo, "Tessio" - Remixes by Schaffh?user/Decomposed Subsonic, M.R.I., Ricardo Villalobos (Force Tracks) - dezember 2000 (http://www.mad-net.de/ware/news.html) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
